Hi everyone.
I am in the process of trying to find a bike to purchase,as I have to start being more active as I have just found out that I have got diabetes,I used to love riding my bike when I was younger,so have decided this will be my main form of fitness. It will be mostly used for commuting to work and back, which is about a 14 mile return trip, plus occasionally for fun on a weekend if I dont attend a football game that is smiling smiley
I have a few small problems though, firstly the only decent bike retailer by me is probably Halfords, the others are very small shops that had nothing I was looking for.So it looks likely that I will have to order online, which doesn't fill me with much confidence,so I was hoping someone could help me with a trusted supplier, that I could purchase a bike from.
Also a few recommendations would be appreciated,I would probably be willing to spend about £350 for now,but if I enjoy it like I used too I would probably get more serious and end up riding more often,so maybe buy a better bike,if the Wife lets me
Anyway hope you don't mind helping me out, plus I will no doubt be more active on here, now that I have found such a useful place.

A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game0 -
Carrera Virtuoso
In budget, from Halfords, Cycling+ recommended.0 -
+1 the carrera got the highest rating in junes cycle + assuming you dont mind going for a drop handle bike as i see all your choices are flat handlebars
compact chainset with a large range of gears and good geometry
if work does a cycle2workagain would seriously look at 1 myself as a replacement for my hackFCN 3/5/90 -

Have you tried a few drop-barred bikes for more than just a quick spin in the carpark? I ask because lots (and lots) of people on here have first bought a flat-barred bike because thats what they thought they wanted, only to quickly discover that they really should have bought a drop-barred bike straight off. Fair enough if you have experience of drops and still prefer falts, but if you haven't tried drops, I'd be very wary of ruling them out. For the vast majority of people drop bars are the best way to go on bike used mainly on the road.
Remember, drops are designed for comfort on long rides.0 -
Used drops for years and years on my old racing bikes.0
