I'm no expert but recently got a GT Aggressor XC1 form Halfords and I can't fault it. Managed to get 20% off as well so only paid about £440.

Great bike for the money so far.

What/where will you be riding? Are you a heavy rider?

Its mainly track then about once a week stuff such as Bewts-y-coed, coed-y-brenin and Cli-machx, but i also commute 4 miles daily, i think i would rather a top notch lightweight HT than a average full sus for my £1000

I appreciate there are good bargains out there such as the GT mentioned above for around £500 but I figure If i've got a grand to spend on a cycle2work bike, and can afford it then I should

    commenst please

slight issue is I have to go to Halfords yet they don't stock any of the bikes I'm interested in , I have viewed the Specialised and the Trek elsewhere but Halfords do not stock the Boardman just mail order it?????

    Hi,

    Get the Boardman Pro h/t!

Really lovely bike, and a bargain!

You can either get the bike from, and assembled by, halfords, or you can now get them delivered or pick them up in the box.

Might be worth getting the bike in the box, and then getting a good bike shop to set it up for you, because some halfords can be a bit gash.

Another biased opinion from me  Boardman Pro all the way....

Seriously though, you didn't mention your budget, is the Pro within your price range at £999.99 ? If so, get yourself to your local Halfords and try it out. Very difficult to beat for the money there is also the team for £850 if you can't stretch to the £999

I have a temptation, which I'm resisting, to grab an i-drive 5 on my work's next cycle2work... I don't need it, I can't afford it and I'll never ride it but still.

You ever rode a Idrive NW? I love the sus - not just cos it's a GT, it really does bloody work.

I rode one years ago, a 3.0 maybe if I've got the years right. First full sus bike I didn't hate  Never ridden a modern one though, but then you can't demo the new one. But then if you're buying a bike you don't need, can't afford, and will never ride it might as well be one you can't testride

Hehe, true. I test rode a XCR4000 - just blew me away. And this is from a die hard HT fan! I did sell my ID4 to finance the carbon though, and I do miss it.
