Hi folks.

I'm considering replacing the Bontrager Race Basic saddle that came as standard with my Trek 1.5. I'm not keen to spend a huge amount of money on a replacement, so don't want to go overboard.

Does anyone actually know what the constructioin of the Bontrager Race Basic is? I'm assuming it's a foam compound of some sort.

I was thinking of going for a gel saddle at around the £50 mark, but wasn't sure whether this would actually be a significant improvement over what I've got.

Rather hard to buy a saddle, since the only way I can think of for buying the right one is to head out for a few hours and try it out :)
Also I know that what's posterior heaven for one person might well be hell for someone else.

Any advice or pointers appreciated.

Most Selle Italia dealers do a demo service, that is a good starting point. Fizik seem to be very popliar too, I use Aliantes, your mileage may vary...

I got a Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow from evans a while back. Seriously comfortable so would recommend it but it is pricey.
Anyway, my SI saddle came with a 30 day no fuss returns slip. Said I could return it to the retailer within 30 days (normal use) if I didn't like it.
Obviously you can't do this if you fall and rip it or whatever.
