Hi :)

A quick introduction, I am a 34yo chap who currently rides a '00 Marin B17 with Hope discs, XTR Rapid Rise, Planet X Bars and some V8's aside from standard.

I always used to ride dual and single slalom and dabbled with general freeride and a fair bit of XC.

I have now come back to biking after a 3-4 year break and feel I need a new bike after someone called it a 'classic' when they saw it :o

I have been looking at Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Elite and the Trek EX 8 as I feel they would offer the best compromise between XC which I will now mostly be doing but give e the option of a little freeride capabilites on brave days

I keep hearing good things about Cube but feel a little shy towards these new brands on the scene.

I would appreciate any input, alternative suggestions or general abuse for being an old git :P

Thanks in advance

Phil.

Don't really think either of those will stand up to diet freeride.

When you say freeride-lite how much air are we talking?

The stumpy definatley leans towards XC trail bike as does the EX8

IMHO you'd need somthing a little burlier if you plan on some air time, say an orange 5, Lapierre zesty or somethign along those lines, 140mm of travel adn stronger components.

    A couple of feet :lol::wink:

Really not into charging into large table tops and the like anymore so its not going to get a huge amount of abuse.

Budget is absolute max of £2k but would prefer to spend around the £1750 mark.

Oh and I'm 6'3" and 100kgs with a body fat % of about 18% so not too lardy, but its a fair weight it has to deal with.

Thanks for your reply, I'll have a nosey at your suggestions 8)

Ok so I bought a Specialized Stumpy FSR Elite and took it straight out up Chicksands (my local place to ride) within an hour of getting it....

So far so good, rides great and feels 100% better than my old Marin...lockout on shocks is amazing 8)

Cheeky gits. A B17 is on my wishlist 8)

Not sure about an EX for freeriding - a Session 88 FR would be my choice.
