Trail/Freeride Shorts

I'm sure there was a thread on this recently but I can't find it. But anyway...
As it says, I need some shorts for all day riding. They will be worn with knee/shin guards so will need to accomodate them.
Prepared to spend up to £60 but would love to hear about any bargains out there!
I've been looking at Troy Lee Motos and Fox Sergeants. Any thoughts?

I've got a pair of Fox Campus and really like them. Easy to pop out the inner and wear them as normal shorts too.
I had a good look at the Fox Sergeants at the same time (tried both on) and couldn't justify the extra $20. Sergeants do have an MP3 player pocket if you'd need/like one.0 -
Haha! No, not bothered about the MP3 pocket...although I am strangely attracted to the goggle wipe!0

I'm new to all this but i have some of the black pinstripe ones of these:

They seem tough so far and have removable lower legs (with concealed zips) so can be worn short or long. They accomodate my 661 veggie wrap knee and shin guards when worn as shorts (probably when long as well but haven't tried that yet). I've done a couple of reasonable distance rides (40 ish miles on easy off-road terrain) in them but not all day yet. They did a sterling job.
Hope that's of some use!0 -

Got some Mayhem's myslef. Great shorts, won a group test on in What Mountian Bike. Also, you can get them free with a subsciption to Mountain Biking UK.0

I bought some Fox Frequency Shorts from www.stif.co.uk. Cost about £30 reduced from about £60. Seem pretty good top me - only gripes are that the inner is fixed (removable would be nicer) and they come up small around the waist (mine are 32" and, whilst most 32" waist clothes are baggy on me, these are snug (but not enough to cause a problem)). They finish above the knee so would accomodate pads fine, but it may not be your style? May be worth trying due to the price?
Hope this helps!0 -

I recently bought Royal Function shorts from Chain Reaction Cycles. They sit at the knee and are really good quality. They retail for £80 and got them for £45 in sale.0

Thanks chaps. Got the Mayhems in the end. They seem a steal at £25. Looking forward to giving them a good test tomorrow!0

I bought some 'Animal Rocket' for half price (£32.49), and they are great shorts. Very comfortable, and just the right length.0
