Hey
The guys at my LBS are going to build me some wheels.
We both came to a choice... What do you think?
XT Rims
black Blade spokes
Blue hope pro 2 hub front and back?
Also what would you pay roughly as he has npt given me a price yet.
Thanks guys

I didn't realise you could get XT rims separate. Are they any good? How pricey?
You could try using the custom wheel builder on CRC to get a guide price, but they don't have XT rims.0 -
I have been looking, cant seem to find them either.
Will call him tommorow.
I like the black and white, any other pimp rims you can recomend?
My bike is black and white and hope blue.
Cant go anywere else as they are doing this for C2W.
Price maybe up to 350 as want brakes and raceface dues xc crank as well, and maybe shifters if money allows.
I want light as well, as I am a bike whore0 -
I usually like black rims and spokes so probably not the best person to ask about that. Funn, Halo and Spank could be brands to look at, what type of riding?
Sun do some winter camo rims that might fit the bill.0 -
WHat spokes?0

which Rims?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

WHich nipples.

LOL
Sorry doing commute and afan W2 and cwmcarn type riding.
LBS said they could get blade spoke like the ones on the mavics, think they are sweet.
I have not seen them sold on the local sites like crc or merlin though, maybe I should wait for the 1 guy to get back from france as he is doing a bike tour.
Nipples? Sorry never had to choose a new wheel before, god I am such a noob.
Just looking for some sweet wheels,
If I had enough money I would go for the crank bros ones that are blue, but they are like 700.00.
Sorry to be such a pain..0 -

I suggest you use merlin or CRC and spec your own wheels.
Your LBS seem VERY vague in what you'll actually be paying for.
Whats your budget?0 -
I agree, I would want to know exactly what spokes as they are such a big part of the build.0
-
I have to use them.
They are allowing me to buy kit on the c2w scheme, which they are not supposed to.
I just wrote down what I wanted, but the guy I spoke to did not build the wheels, he was just a rider and shop keeper.
I just kinda want to know I guess, if you guys had around 350.00 what would you buy?
They do a lot of bontrager, and prob mavic and shimano.
Thanks so much guys0 -
What bike, riding tyle and weight are you?
Remember with C2W the kit isn't actually yors - you lease it off your company. It belongs to them.0 -
I am not very good at this.
I know the scheme and done it before, and plan on buying the stuff after the 18 months, so no probs there.
I do XC only, no DH, like to do minor drops maybe 2 feet of stairs and stuff in town.
Maybe I would be better off with manufacture xt wheels?
But like the hope hubs.
Im lost0 -
If you need standard QR hubs, then the Hopes or XTR built into 717 rims (or 719 if you want a touch more strength and a wider rim), built with double butted spokes ie DT Comp 14/15g. Forget that bladed stuff unless you can afford DT Aerolite or Sapim CXRay.0
-
how much abuse can the DT aerolite and sapim spokes take??
will they handle some rough XC and trail riding??0 -
Yes, if the wheel is built correctly.0
-
How much are those spokes?
Would they put it over 350-400?
Thanks0 -
Very likely, they cost a fair bit more than standard DB spokes. Will drop the weight by about 100g for the pair though.0

Would those spokes put my budget over, are they worth it?
I got 350-400
Just want some sweet light rims.
SORRY DOUBLE POST :oops:0 -
I dunno what your shop charges!0
-
I`d get Mavic 719`s on Pro2`s with DT comp spokes. Should be able to get them for somewhere around your budget. Good luck0
-
I think I will have to have a chat with the wheel builder, he is back in on monday.
I cant understand why you cant buy xt rims though, bit strange, what happens if you break them? You would have to buy a different rim.
Thanks guys for your help, might have to go with mavic.0 -
Aren't XT rims 24 spoke? I know mine are - not sure if they do different versions - if so, do they actually make Pro II's in 24 spoke?
You could just go for the XT wheelset if you fancy XT rims. Think they weigh in at around 1650g and they're UST.0 -
Or a set of mavis Cross trails, similar weight, similar proce, similar bling factor0

The owner called me today and was about to put through the order for XT or XTR brakes depending price price difference.
Raceface dues XC 2009 crank
and the wheels and then he said about the wheels you better come down and speak to the builder tomorrow
So its almost done, just needed your guys input, want light, but with the above kit as well, will prob only have 400.00 to spare.
I want to try get xt or xtr shifters as well if there is money left over.0
