In a nut shell I would like to know what are the best tyres for the two halves of the year and maybe a PERFECT all rounder?

Looking at about 2.1 width and whether UST is worth it?

Thanks guys

Racing raplh front and rear for proper summer
Nobby nic front and rear for winter
Mix the combinations for the marginal stuff.

Not sure about tubeless yet, think I'll wait for technology to evolve a bit.

Within reason, it's not an out-and-out mud-plugger but has handled most of what I've thrown at it last winter (light and fast-rolling too).

    I won't use anything else now, I reckon they're spot-on.

summer - usually continental speedkings (although i have been known to use them all year round) light fast rolling and better than you would think in the mud. downside -wear pretty quick

winter - bontrager mud x's are a good option, light, and as you'd expect pretty good in the mud, reasonably fast rolling

all rounder - panaracer xc's - last for ages, can deal with most conditions, again pretty light and quick rolling

I've been using them for over a year (on and off-road), seem to be lasting ok, although some folk have issues with their longevitey.

If you shop around they can be picked up relatively cheaply now.

For me, it's random mixtures of Kenda Small Block 8s (fast, for summer) and Nevegals/Blue Grooves (slower, for everything else or for manky days in summer). I don't use full-on mud tyres, up here there's not much mud that calls for them and I just avoid those trails, in an attempt to not leave them trashed in the spring.

The Nevegal/Blue Groove combo is a great all rounder, if I wanted just one set of tyres to do everything it'd be these, but they're not fast...

the Small Blocks are superb fast summer tyres, tough and grippy but still very fast and comfy. I am in love :) They're not race tyres, they're fast trail tyres, but they're almost as fast as the real race rubber and not too much heavier either, and they seem miles tougher. But they'd be horrible in winter, they can cope with summer mud but not real stodgy deep stuff.

No doubt everyone else has their favourites, someone'll recommend highrollers shortly, they're ace too ;)

Kenda - Tomac "Small Block Eight"

Not great in mud, but great in the dry, rubbly stuff, I have 2.1" front and back on hardtail and rigid forks. Rolls so well and great when you hit tarmac, be prepared to slide on corners but its predictable so that means fun if you like a slide.

    I like it. 8)

Summer tire used to be 2.3 SpeedKing supersonics fast rolling light 415g ish pretty good in the dry but not all that inspiring when it came to nailing corners.

I now run Raceking 2.2 supersonics even tho they are 60ish grams heaver than the SK's ( Im a WW) as they roll faster grip better and conner like they are on rails compared to the SK.

In the winter only when its really really muddy ill chuck on my Nobbly Nic 2.25's other wise its the Raceking

Summer - Currently using the Specialized Fast Trak Control LK that came with the bike. Good in the very dry, not in anything else.

Winter - Schwalbe Ice Spikers. See location for details.

Autumn - Will probably try the Nic/Ralph combo when it turns wet again.

+1 for speed kings (2.1 foldables) in the summer..great on the dry trails at the moment..super fast and light. Puncture resistance seams good so far..rode over allsorts last night (running them at 40psi) Not too bad on the road either..

1.8 Panaracer XC pros in the winter..great for cutting through the mud and not too bad on the roads..reasonably light...

Got some High roller 2.35's aswell but not used these much..

Ive just been for a blast with my 2.3 SpeedKing supersonic on the rear and i have to say i don't know how i rode with them, they are terrible compared to my 2.2 Raceking supersonics they have little grip, slow and skip all over the place
