Can you use a kids trailer bike (tag a long) with a FS MTB? It attachs to the seat post and will not do any proper off road!

I would put this is the family forum but my posts seem to go unanswered there.

Thanks.

no idea! but i have seen someone with a full sus and one of those pull along buggie things for tiny kids.. I presume its down to how it fastens to the bike, and how much articulation it can take regarding suspension compression.
  • All i could find was this..

Seems people haven't had many problems.

Have you seen the sidecar ones? they look awesome :D

BTW, change the thread title to something like "bike trailers for kids" etc etc.... its pretty vague and if people are as lazy as me they might not open the thread  (this was an exception lol)

Hey passout, if its any help, my mate and his wife both have specialized epics, and one of these Tag A Long style trailers.

They take their kid out on numerous rides (on road obviously) and I've never heard them complain about their rear sus or anything like that.. so I'd guess from that, that they are perfectly compatible with FS bikes.

    Hope that helps :)

That sidecars amazing but it's $75 just for the hitch
    There's no trailer included!

And it would mean that the kiddy is on the off side so more exposed to traffic. Fine for the US but I wouldn't want to use it here. I would prefer to be on the outside to provide a bit more protection for the little one.

Can't wait till my son is a little bigger and can go in the seat on the back of my HT.

    That helps - thanks guys.

I'm taking the family (wife, 4 yr old, 1 yr old) for a two week Scottish Holiday in the summer - Fort Bill & Skye. Obviously I'll do some proper rides by myself but I also need to carry the 4 year old on my Meta when I'm in 'family guy' mode. My 4 year old girl wants to be a Mountain Biker like Dad!

Sidecars....cool! I'll look into that as an option.

I'd get a trailer instead, much safer option. People use the chariot cougar 2 for off-road a fair bit, it has suspension and seems to work pretty well for that, plus it doesn't effect the steering as much being mounted on the rear axle.

I've towed my daughters tag along with my Stumpjumper FSR, just locked out the rear shock but I don't think it would have made a lot of difference with it unlocked.

We also have a Burley Cub trailer, now that I can only tow with the commuter bike as it attaches inside the rear triangle on the disc side, so no clearance, and I've got carbon seatstays on the hardtail and the rear triangle on the stumpy has pivots above the drop outs.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
