Depressingly, this sort of thing is so common

This sort of thing is terrible but not confined to the Modern World - read Thomas Hardy for instance. Britain is much better in terms of violent crime & rape than most countries around the world.

Sorry, went a bit daily mail then, won't happen again.

Do you really believe it's just 'modern Britain'? This sort of thing has been happening probably for ever. What makes it different now is the instant and widespread publicity via the news media of all types, most notably, this one.

Incest, in particular was treated almost as joke when it was remarked that everyone in a small village tended to look alike. That's not to say it's right and shouldn't be condemned; just that it's nothing new.

    Two found guilty of murder.

A knife attacker freed from jail by mistake and a drug addict have been found guilty of murdering two French students.
Dano Sonnex and Nigel Farmer stabbed postgraduates Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez a total of 244 times during a three-hour torture ordeal at Mr Bonomo's bedsit in New Cross, south London.
Mr Bonomo's mother Lydie said her son would still be alive if had not been for the errors at every level of the justice system that let Sonnex go.

Just watched this news item on the BBC, it made me feel both very, very angry and sick to the pit of my stomach. It's time people who fit into certain catagories were exterminated.

Excellent! Our very own Daily Mail thread!

EDIT: Just spotted your post dmclite - I'm way too slow.
Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir... gently and firmly. You've got to grind your beans until they squeak.
And then you put in the milk.

....i try to be open minded but a true story i heard made me realise that something has to give....

A workman (son-inlaw) knocks on house door 10.30am.
Male opens upstairs window eventually and grunts.
Informed that the tiling work needed to be done.
Male opens door no words and walks back in house and sits in front of computer his wife sits in front of TV in different room both playing computer games.
    Workers leave at 4pm.
At no point did the couple stop playing computer games no food or conversation did not even move once.
In total the house improvements will cost £18,000 - All paid for by us.

House belongs to HA or council presumably - so they will benefit.

Money goes to your son-in-law's company - cash injection into economy.

    Can't see a problem.

If you accept freedom of choice then some people will choose to be feckless idiots - it's a fact of life.

    Sorry. :(

So are you the house owner/computer game player then? You could've at least made them a drink.

.... yeah would of gladly made him a drink if i could afford £18,000 worth of anything!

......totally agree...people are different and some will work hard some wont i dont believe one is particularly more worthy than tuther but i mean SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE surely we cant sustain this totally absurd reality of thousands spent on people who dont appreciate/need/deserve such lavishness. Chances are couple of years time the redecorated house will be a tip in need of a small fortune being spent on it..... :?
