Hi - can someone recomend a decent multittool which will be the only tool I need to carry? My chain broke when I was last riding, and luckily someone else stopped and fixed it for me - so this made me realise how important a decent multitool is :-)

park tools ibeam is the best multitool i've used, then just get a seperate chain tool aswell, as they are better anyway. I got a CB multi tool with loads of functions and a nice little case, to replace the park, but its rubbish to use.

Lezyne CRV 19. SRAM's Powerlink also comes in useful.

Lezyne tools are very nice, the hex keys are a bit on the short side though. I have one for my road bike as it fits in a dinky seat pack. For longer rides I take a Topeak Alien II, not much you can't fix with that, but some tools may be redundant (spanners) unless you are riding a tourer. Topeak tools seem to be top quality, so really any of theirs that have the tools you need should be a good choice.

Powerlinks or KMC quick links are a good idea, as above, I always carry them, though you still need a chain tool to remove broken links.

Topeak Hexus, not saying that it's the best but it's certainly as good as you need. Very compact but still easy to use, good range of tools (not too many, not too few), and an excellent chain tool seals the deal. It does have integrated tyre levers but I don't trust them much, they feel flimsy, so I never use them. But they're cleverly designed to double as grips anyway so that's no loss, I just forget they're there.

Pedros tool is fine - nothing fancy but durable.

I have the Topeak Alien II and rate it highly. I also carry a small 'leatherman' style multitool as well for the pliers and a couple of other things.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

This is what I carry when touring - the pliers have come in handy to tighten those cable tie type repairs, and numerous other fixes with both bike and camping gear. The scissors on them get a lot of use too.

Another vote for the Topeak Alien II, good chain tool as well. I also have the stand alone chain tool, very easy to use.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

    Topeak Alien II

I've used it as a workshop tool before, it's very good as a multi tool. The chain splitter is one of the best on any multi tool.

    Very highly recommended

I've got a topeak ratchet rocket. Mostly for the gadget appeal.

    No complaints about it though.
