You do know you can just patch inner tubes they don't have to be replaced every time.

Yeah, but it's a hassle and they're not that pricey.

think of the credit crunch

I'm with the yokel on this one. I've got three patches on one of my present spare tubes. I patch them on the basis that, if you do get a bad deflation which opens the tyre tread quite a bit, I don't want to waste a new tube on it for the purposes of getting into work/getting home. I carry three spare tubes with me.

I can't believe some of you just chuck tubes away after 1 use! I've had tubes for years and years. When I was a broke youngster, some of my tubes were almost glued together by patches, but they still worked fine. No point chucking the tube after 1 little pin prick!

how often do you punture? i very very rarely do so for me i just bin and move on a tube every 2 years or so really doesn't make much sence, i also like to make sure nothings left in the tire so at that point i may as well just stick a new tube in.

Not as frequently as I used to, my current tyres seem more resistant, however it just seems a complete waste to chuck them away. Perhaps that's just me. I probably get a puncture every few months these days. How does throwing a tube away help you check whether something's left sticking in the tyre?

it doesn't more than once i've taken the tire off etc i might as well put the new tube in, and checked the old tube for a hole. then i really have very little reason to bother to patch it as it's so rare to happen.

Whether I chuck them or not depends on where I am when I'm doing something about it. Most of my flats are on my MTB, and I just swap the tube and take the old one home. Same for road rides but much less frequent. Thing is I don't fancy fixing it and then carrying it as a spare untested, and I wouldn't trust it if I pumped it up to test and then deflated it to stick in my Camlebak. I can't usually be bothererd to fix it and swap it out either so it usually just goes in the spares box.

For my commuter I'm usually fixing it at leisure and putting it straight back in so I'll always patch it if I can.

patch it at the spot if it not raining and i have the time to do so then put it back on. if not, put the spare one on and take the punctured one home to patch it then use that as the spare tube.
