"we're a forum of pointless upgraders, depreciation maximisers, and diminishing returns addicts"0 -
Any bike you want, honestly.
You just have to get the bhp restricted. You could even go out and buy a fireblade.
I'd recomend a 400cc sports though. ZXR400, CBR400, VFR400. All really great fun. (you might have to get them restricted though, but worth it)+ 1001 posts reset by the cruel cruel moderators!

If you can insure it..you can even have a Hyabusa..as long as it's restricted to 33bhp...WHY you'd want to tho is beyond me ....you are stuck to 33 bhp for 2 years.

I am sure at the age of 17 you will find that 33 bhp is a hell of a lot of fun
even though you will probably want more
congratulations on passing your test0 -
What i don't get is if on all of the motorbike companys website, they are measuring the bikes in cc, how do you know what BHP they are?Ribble Gran Fondo

Ok cheers for all of the help
my last question is, if anybody knows the Kawasaki Ninja 250s BHP?

Just move to the Isle of Man, none of these silly restrictions when you pass, although you DO have to wear red plates with an 'R' (for retard) on them for 1 year so people know you are a noob.
Also, you can take your tests (bike and car) at age 16.
To be honest, you dont want to go from a 125 straight onto 1000cc+ superbike anyway, too much power and not enough experience to use it properly, plus the weight and balance is VASTLY different on the big bikes (obviously) and imho, something you really need to build up to.
Oh, not forgetting the fact that we have the TT course here too (TT next week actually).
You should be ok on the Ninja. It depends which year you get, as the BHP figures differ slightly on the older models, but IIRC, they are all under 33bhp. Best bet is to speak directly with a Kawasaki dealer. They can advise on the best bike whilst you are restricted based on budget etc.0 -
That's what i am going to do (building it up), i am going to have a 250cc for about two years by then the restriction will be over and then i will get a 600 (my dad moved from 250 to 600 so i should be ok), and then gradually up and up....until hayabusa!!! lolRibble Gran Fondo

Noooooo, you dont want a Hayabusa, they are fat, fugly looking things that weigh as much as my house. Get a Fireblade instead, much more chuckable in the corners.
Or, if you fancy splashing out on a bit of motorcycle porn, grab yourself an MV Augusta, the F4 1078 RR 312. If I had a spare £17k, that is what I would be spunking it on.0 -
The Ninja 250 is I think supplied restricted to 33bhp for the UK market, it's targeted as a learner bike (full power that old engine delivers something awe inspiring like 39bhp...) Nice wee bikes actually, quite impressed.
The trouble with the 33bhp market is that there isn't one, really... Very few manufacturers make a bike that's designed for it, so even some of the 250s are too powerful. So restrictors are often the best option to give you more choice, but some bikes restrict better than others. CBR400 on restrictors- horrendous. SV650S on restrictors- pretty good. Oh, and restriction can be quite pricey, because some insurers don't just want it legal, they want proof of restriction which you have to pay through the nose for. Legal extortion, more or less.

Oh i know, when i'm older and am on full powered motorbikes i would love that MV agusta, and if i get the job i want i probably would end up taking out a loan for it lolRibble Gran Fondo

Good tip for a bike that works well when restricted (ie doesn't lose all of its poke is the SV650.
Generally speaking torquey twins feel better when restricted than high revving fours. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
cheers for answering my questions everybody

And it is...?! Preferably with pics, please.
It's such a shame there's no market for good 250s any more - my TDR is such a laugh, turns faster than a Mountain Bike & takes off like a scalded cat! Taught me more in a couple of rides than I'd learnt in years on big four-strokes.
Sorry, gushing!
