Campag short cage mech: whats the largest sprocket size?

Hi
I've currently a 12-25 cassette on campag chorus with a short cage mech. With the marmotte in a few weeks I'd like to add a couple of teeth to the back to be on the safe side (more worried about heat than anything else), so I'm going down the marchisio route - swapping the 23 and 25 sprockets for 24/27 or similar
From reading posts and reviews I'm pretty sure the 27 will fit with the campag short cage mech; however has anyone fitted a 28?
Please make it clear whether you *think* it will work, or whether you've actually done it
Cheers
Jon

Plenty of people use the 13-29 cassette with a short cage mechMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I used a 13-29 in the Marmotte last year on a short cage.0

I use a 13-29 for all hilly rides0

I use a short cage Campag rear mech on a 13-29 with a 50-34 compact without any problems.0

The issue is not about the cassette, it's the combination of cassette and chainrings. For example, if you have a 52-40 then your mech has to take up less slack than if you have a 50-34 even with the same cassette. From the other posts it sounds like the short cage mech will cope with any cassette and any double chainset. However, I suspect you'll have problems if you have a triple.0

I have an old Daytona short cage mech that has worked pretty well with a 32 rear cog (Shimano MTB cassette - mixing two set-ups) and compact front but with that dinner plate it will all jam up and not in a good way if trying (accidentally of course) to use largest cog at front and back together. Likewise the small/small combo may leave the mech folded right over so the chain rubs.
The newer Campag mechs will have the jockey wheels rubbing the rear cog on anything bigger than 29 even with the b screw all the way in, but I would agree that anything up to and including 29 should be fine. Check the chain length afterwards to make sure all is working as it should, and avoid the extreme cross-overs when riding (may still work when on the stand).I\'m sure I had one of those here somewhere0 -
this is the 'official line' from the campag tech manual :-
Double or compact + short cage Rear Mech : all cassettes except 13-29.
Double or compact + medium cage rear mech : all cassettes.
Triple + medium cage rear mech : all cassettes except 13-29
Triple + long cage rear mech : all cassettes.
But as the posters above say they've run things outside the spec without problems.0
