Yeah baby - chuffed to bits today - 22 miles in 1 hour 15 mins. Minus 1 min for my chain coming off, but I rocked my route today.

Man, it feels sooooooo good!!!!
:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Edit: Beforehand it was taking me nearly 2 hours.

    I wouldnt go out in daytime heat in this weather if possible try hit the road about 8am or late afternoon. Got seriously sweaty working in direct sun on past two days, can imagine in my bike gear how sunburn disaster I would be too.

    Yep, noticed that my 800ml bottle is getting finished on 25 milers now.

    LOL It's not THAT hot. Try living in Australia and cycling like I used to. Summer days 35-39 deg C is normal. Just put on shades & sunscreen and keep fluids up.
    Trust me ...it DOESN'T get that hot in the UK.
    I'm off to Portugal in a few weeks on holiday with the Mrs and kids..I said I wanted to take my bike and she laughed at me :cry:

    If you're only taking in 800ml in 25 miles you're not drinking enough - even on a normal day. You probably want at least twice that.
    I'm left handed, if that matters.

    Are you supposed to drink something like a litre an hour?

    If I was drinking 1600ml in 25 miles I'd be in the bushes half the time!

    Exactly. 25 miles on a normal dayand drinking that much would actually be slowing me down. I Just make sure it's isotonic and i make sure i'm hydrated before i go out, 3 litres lasted me 75 miles yesterday and i felt fine.

    I think the guidance is 500ml an hour but I've seen lot's of posts that say just drink when you're thirsty. Not getting into an argument about the science of this though cos I'm certainly no physiologist.

    Oh dear, I'm surprised I haven't died of thirst by now, I never take anything on my 20 mile commute. Mind you, in Scotland it's usually hot chocolate you want in your bottle...

    Fully agree with that sentiment Will - I find, for a ~ 1:15 ride (25 mile loop) 800ml is usually adequate. (hotter weather recently is pushing it a fraction though)

    Does anyone find drinking lots of water the day before a ride, or even a couple of days before, improves there performance compared to if they just drank normally or slightly less than normal?

    I lived in Toronto for nearly five years where the summers are way hotter than here in the UK. It was never the heat that got me but the bonkers summer humidity. Feels like you're breathing steam. Not finding our current hot weather a problem. Just scaling back my expectations and treating rides as more of a spin. Was lovely on Sunday.
