The bike I have just ordered comes with the Shimano M520 pedals and I want to know if they are also designed to be used with flats, trainers.
I am interested in using SPD's in the future and notice the cleats come with the bike but for now I want to use the bike with trainers.
Thanks for any help.

You must use SPD compatible shoes.
You will be better off getting a cheap pair of flat pedals for now.0 -
The M520's are double sided so clip in either side, no platform. They are sold with clip in platforms, however, mainly to provide legal requirement pedal reflectors. This would be okay to use with trainers, unless really going for it. Ask the shop to supply it with them.

I would agree with Supersonic though, if doing anything but pootling.0

Thanks guys, any cheap pedals preferred, any to avoid ?
Thanks again0 -
Anyone.
May seem like a silly question but I dont know unless I ask it.
I have looked a various cheap flat pedals and can see various differences in material, manufacturers and design. Can anyone point me to a make or particular set of pedals which are cheap and tested, are they really all just the same ?.
Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.0 -
slim jims.
you really need to see what you like and then ask for opinions or you will just get a lsit of a 100 pedals."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks for the suggestions.
The slims look ok.
I was really wanting to know if there were any which were just naff and to be avoided or if there was a specific design favoured by most. I dont want to spend an awful lot, the slims look like a good option.
I didnt realise there were so many brands.... quite amazing.0
