Hi all. Great forum you have here.

I have been reading lots on the bikes above, and have £1000 via cyclescheme to spend on a bike. I like the look of these too.

I am a complete noob so please be gentle. I want to use the bike to commute to work say twice a week, 20 mile round trip. Plus some off road use (such as park etc)

I know I should look at hybrids but I like the look of these puppies!

What bike is more suitable for road use in terms of tyres? and overall parts. I know both tyres are knobbly, but maybe I could change the tyres to these?

Can you go from 2.25 to 1.95? on these rims, and is it easy to change tyres?

With these pedals?

Also I am 5"11 what frame size should i go for for mainly road use?

Thanks guys!!!

    Hi

I have both those tyres and have very similar pedals on my MTB. The tyres are decent enough for road use inflating to about 85psi and are acceptable for gravel track use. They don't have enough grip for anything remotely muddy (from wet grass upwards really) so you may have to change the tyres to go out to play.

With a budget of circa £1000 I would look for a cheap racing bike and a mid range (£600) MTB. A £400 racer will be much quicker on the road than the mountain bike and you won't have to keep changing the tyres over. It can be done as several people where I work have bought 2 bikes on the same purchase order on the scheme.

Thanks Tiny. Thats an idea. Not sure I have the space for two, but its worth considering!
