Me and the g/f are heading there too. Not been before so can't offer any ideas, sorry!
The problem I'm having is where to stay, everywhere is booked out. Do you reckon it'd be ok to just camp in a random field?0 -
Aye i dont see why not
the camping rules around scotland just say as long as you tidy up after your self then shouldnt be any problems, only when in a farmers field should you make a point of asking permission
just try and find somwhere quiet and out the way prefferibly with some cover so your not spotted too easily0 -
We ended up camping in a field next to the school, it was fine and right next to one of the event bus stops. Quues are usually the worst tjing. Takeaway food at the event was great with porridge available in the morning!
We just lived on thAt and fish and chips and was fine.
Town centre at night is mobbed so better to have a campsite party!
Lots of people were camped at points next to the road up glen Nevis and had no hassles apparently0 -
Oh and leave the bike at home, would be way too much hassle0
-
Scottyjohn, did you not get any hassles from police or passers by?0
-
leaning towards leaving the bike at home it was just a thought as we are sticking around the monday and tuesday and thought it would be good for the trails
but the more i think about it.....the security....drunk riding.....hire bike for girlfriend....she wont do anytning to dificult0 -

you could rent a couple of bikes on the monday if you still feel like a ride after the madness!
there are loads of trails in and around fort bill...including relaxed forest rambles (as you say your lady is a cycling novice)....
ask at the hire shop for what you want and they will sort you out with advice and/or trail maps.Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Heading up there Friday morning - can't wait, shame it looks like the weather aint gonna hold, expecting rain now
Staying at Lochy caravan park, gone all posh with a static caravan for me and the mrs.
Anyone know if you are allowed to take in your own beer?0 -

I will be taking my own beer by hook or by crook...Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

the "Scotland" issue of MBUK spoke of taking in beer e.g cheap folk blaggin cans off folk
so ive bought a couple of cases for daytime drinking at the event, got cans tho as if there is any rules it will most likely be no glass0 -
There were some guys on this forum making, and taking their own beer so it should be fine0

IIRC I dont think there are any checks on bags at the gate, although it is quite well fenced off. But then an old camelback in a rucksack full of vodka and fresh orange would be difficult to find
We camped here the last time, just paste these numbers into google maps
56.839032, -5.074890
It sits off the main drag so no problems from police or passers by. There were a few tents there and people having bbqs next to the river, all cool, with no trouble.0 -
Ive just looked on google maps and noticed that our campsite (linne l;ochside) is a good mile or so from the bus stop hahaha ah well drunken walk it is0
-
the only booze you should be putting in your camelbak is buckfast!! it makes sense. tastes just as/good/bad warm as it does cold plus its full of caffeine, which will keep you going, might also result in you getting arrested, be warned!!
im camping at loch lochy campsite, 4 of us an an 8 man tent, a few slabs, feel free to come get drunk, but dont come empty handed.i spent all me money on whisky and beer!!!0 -
Arghhhh, we couldn't get booked in to any campsites, they're all full apart from Glen Nevis which is 1st come 1st served and there's no way we'd be there in time to grab a pitch.
So we've had to go down the boring B&B route. No campsite boozes for us0 -
Now theres a blast from the past! I havent had Buckfast in years, I must be getting old. Mind you the missus thinks differently when I come in covered in mud and scrapes
DiscoStu, you should just have taken a chance and arrived, you would have found somewhere to camp.0 -
havent had a bottle of the bionic tonic since i was about 15 bloody vile stuff!!
like i said our campsite is over past corpach so i dunno how busy it will be with bike and or party folk0 -

I was there last weekend. There are plenty of rides for non bikers. My gf and her sister did one but got lost and ended up doing some of 10 under ben and the world champ XC circuits.
wish I was going up, loved the place!
have a good one! You've got to burn it to earn it!!0
