Hi
I'm looking for a ladies mountain bike so i can join my partner on the trails. I am new to this and I have about £400 but willing to spend a bit more if a bike is worth it. I have been looking at the Giant Yukon and Specialised Myka Elite.

Eventhough the Myka is over £400, reviews are commenting that it is worth the extra money. Does anyone have any other suggestions or tips for me?

Sarah

    Really depends on your size.

I've had a hardrock pro for years (about £500) and it's still winning comparison tests in the bike mags. I've only just started upgrading bits on it, it's lasted me really well.

I do ride the 19" though, so there may be much better bikes out there for more normal sized women

  • Try that Spesh - it's nice.

Or try a men's one (they go doen to 15" frame) - the front to back reach isn't massive, so you never know...

That's what I did and I'm happy as anything :D

I have just bought a TREK 4500 WSD for £450... I am new to this too... I was thinking about the myka ellite too but the brakes put me off, I chose the TREK becuase if I wanted to I can up grade the brakes from V brakes to the Disk Brakes easily!!!

I have been around Llandegla once, I did fall off but that has nothing to do with the bike just me being rubbish  !!!!
  • ah yes, the V versus disc brakes issue

must admit, i love the disc brakes on mine.... :D

  • i hate shopping too - if you have a small waist and -er- women's hips, then you are just guaranteed to end up with trousers with a waist at least 3 inches too big.

since when were us ladies supposed to be straight up and down!?! :x

Ha ha, same here. I have two problems:

    1) My legs are short. However, they're not short enough for short length trousers/jeans. But if I wear regular length, they drag along the floor, and end up getting all raggedy from being ground underneath my heel. For extra comedy value, when it's raining they act like absorbent kitchen roll, and soak up puddles because they're in contact with the floor.

    2) I also have the small waist to large arse/hips ratio problem. If I want jeans to fit my waist, I can't get them past the hips. Get ones that pass the hips, and I get an attractive excess of waistband, allowing people to comment on my pants and to try and throw balled up bits of paper into it, shouting "SCORE" when they succeed. :x

Caz is quite tall lol. Merlin frames can come up quite short mind. my ex had an 18" and was too cramped for me at 6ft.

Mrs T, you are so selfish. Just think of all the free enjoyment you could be providing in these times of economic strife, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, all you can think about is your pants.

For shame, Mrs Toast. For shame.
