i want to get a xc hardtail but i cant really afford to build from the frame i might be getting, could i use the wheelset from my other bike and just swap between, would i have to have the same brakes to go with the rotors and what about gearing comatibility?
avid juicy 5's
and I don't know what the cassette is but its xt mech
this wouldn't be perminant just until i could afford a new wheel set

Rotors tend to fit different brakes however there are a few brakes and rotors that don't mix. What rotors do you have and what different brakes are you thinking about putting on the new bike?
As long as the mech and shifters on both bikes are the same speed (eg. 9 speed) and the cassette is the same speed then it would work. Also wouldn't matter if one bike had shimano and the other had SRAM gearing.0 -

For the front mech, it's fine. But you need SRAM rear mech and shifters, or Shimano rear mech and shifters.
Mixing the front, however, is no problem!Boo-yah mofo

2 different bikes duder.....he just wants to swap the wheels....the cassette should work with either SRAM or Shim...as long as both bikes have the same number of gears.
but on the same bike.....your answer was right..it mustve been the question that was wrongWhenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Oh, just a note on the swapment of wheels though - the gears MAY need re-indexing, as the cassette can sit slightly differently on different hubs. Or even on the same brand and model of hub!
Same goes for discs - you may find you need to slightly adjust the caliper, so it sits on the disc centrally!Boo-yah mofo
