Im so embarrassed been riding clipless for 2 years and managed to have a fall today. I'm ashamed

Basically I was turning right and someone was going straight over the T-junction so i slowed down then they slowed down even further and changed their mind and decided they were now turning right, id unclipped my left foot but was incredibly unbalanced and toppled. Had they continued on their journey i'd of been able to balance it out and just pull away but no they basically stopped in front of me and over i toppled.

There were cars in front, left and right...

I'm disgusted with myself

did a non clipless fall once

came up to the gates at work thinking i was clipped in when i was wearing trainers

the bike went right as i tried to use a keyfob thing and thinking 'theres no way i can unclip im half way over' i went with it, splat...

all i had to do was to put my foot down :)

Can I hijack this thread to see what people think of the Power Grip as an alternative to toe clips and clipless pedals? My mate used to have them and was wondering if they're still made - they clearly have a following!

Most definitely still made- got a pair last year, Evans stock them. Fitted one, took it off again after only a few minutes when I realised that I was going to do myself an injury if I tried using them on the road. Maybe it's just because I'm a clumsy git, but I couldn't get out easily. And they were supposedly the right size. Practice might of course made perfect in time...oh well. I'm glad I went to SPDs though- I prefer hearing and feeling that clunk in or out.

    I can't see why you'd use them over SPDs/Eggbeaters?

Well, because they're comfortingly old school and not pricey/scary like clipless. And you can still ride on the flats, and wear normal shoes, yadda yadda. I'm not suggesting getting any :)

Well that clears that up! :D

Surely they'd be a pretty eassy DIY project...

You know when you go to the gym and try to use the exercise bike and spend ages getting any sort of comfort with the rubber straps over the pedals?

"Power Grip - like those sh!t things at the gym"

Do you think I should go into marketing?

Only the straps on your average exercise bike are probably easier....
SPD/flat combo pedals are a better compromise- regular shoes when you want, clipless when you want. And even with the price increases over the last year, a budget pair of pedals and SPD shoes will still be cheaper than many pairs of regular shoes alone....

    First Fall yesterday

Out with middle boy - along Wimbledon Parkside moth flew into my eye,
told middle boy to stop, stopped myself (oh dear I cant get my foot out) and then fell into the grass verge.

Moth flew off, middle boy laughing, me with a soft but embarrasing landing giggling too.

I hate moths - must do better
