The Rockhopper has got better brakes, and I think it looks better aesthetically.

Rockhopper is more expensive tho, so depends on ur budget I guess.

Also depends which bike will fit you better.

Andy, actually yes as those threads seem to have gone a bit stale now and none of them answer my particular question, as i did mention as a beginner i am not up on which are the best components etc, to me shimano is shimano but to the trained eye some of the componets are different and obviously some better than than the other so if you have nothing helpful to add i ll be seeng ya.

The only bike i haven't tried is the Focus for obvious reasons. if for instance i ordered the Focus and felt it rode the same as the Specialized i would want to chose the bike with the better spec. But if someone says the Specialized is the better spec of the two then i wouldn't waste my time in ordering the Focus then having to wait for it to arrive then have to unpack it to test it then if i don't like it pack it back up and send it back wait for my refund then order the Specialized that i could have just ordered in the first place, however if the Focus is the better speced i will take a chance on ordering and if i like how it rides then great if not i can send it back.

personally I would prefer to buy a fantastic bike that I could try out first. is it worth going thru all the hassle of sending a bike back if ur not satisfied?

There is also sizing to consider.

The Focus seems to be better specced to me.

  • focus has a really good fork but as some say on this forum the spec tends to change so i advise you get a emailed responce with what the forcus you buy will come speced as.

i say this as some say its SLX as does the wiggle site yet some people been given decore instead so get a email to be sure you got some sort of responce to prove the spec they tell is what you get.

focus has top notch forks, i have some fox f100 rlc's and whilst not the same as the focus ones all fox forks are superb in my opinion i also have a stumpy with 120mm fox talas and they are also excellent better than any rockshox forks ive ever had, not to say rockshox are bad, just imo the recons on the spesh cant touch the foxs on the focus, go for the focus, the wheels are a bit crap but upgrade them when you knacker them for some nice hope pro 2 hubs and mavic xc717 rims built by merlin cycles!

  • dont wiggle offer a 7 day try out period? If you dont like the bike you can send it back.

Ha ha love this bit......for health and safety reasons the bike must be clean!

Basically so they don't have to clean it themselves before they resell it (which I presume they do.)

between those two id go for the focus, its unusual to get a fox fork on a bike that price
