Hello

I bought a set of second hand Rock Shox Tora 318's with Rebound, and U Turn, (Non Motion Control models)

I weigh 15 stone, and reckon I may need to upgrade the springs.

Can someone please give me an idea of how i go about this and where to get the bits I need , or should I send them off to get done.

Quite mechanically minded and have most tools

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

did mine last week - they are a doddle to do if you have the 24mm socket required to remove the top cap.

Got mine from TF Tuned - £21 plus £3 next day guaranteed postage I think.

I went for the Blue Firm spring after advice on here (although rockshox site suggests for my 14.5 stone I would need the black xtra frim spring).

Had a gentle ride out at the weekend and mine feels perfect, pleased I didn;t go for the xtra firm.

Easy to change - remove the screw from the top of the left leg and remove the compression adjustment dial. Use a 24mm socket to remove the top cap and then remove the space and old spring. Grease you new spring and drop it in, then the spacer and then put everything back together.

    Thanks for the helpful comment...however

On the top of my forks, on the left leg there is a U Turn knob, on the right leg, there is just a black plastic nut.

This has been making me think they might not be 318's as described when i bought them.

    Will the same apply?

318 have a lockout and compression adjuster atop the right leg. Same applies for the Uturn assembly though.

My forks dont have any adjustment on the right leg, they only have a black large cover, which is shaped like a nut.

So have I been sold these as 318's when they are something else.

Sounds like an old 302 or a 289.

    You have been done.

Id like to think I havent been done, as the person who sold me them, is a current member of the forum and has been amazing to deal with and helpful in every way he could be.

I cant get springs for this model either it appears, so i will have to buy new forks.....

Will contact the seller and see what he says,

Id have thought the spring assembly was the same also, but apparently not.

I will ring them again, if you can advise what model they are.

    Have attached pics below:

I need to see the top caps and side sticker really. Also if you look under the crown there should be a date stamp. Looks like a 302.

    RS Springs available here:

I wasn't aware they were different - I have succesfully transplanted a 318 spring assembly into a 302, no problems.

    Hi

Sorry i dont have a pic im afraid.

The forks have a U-Turn cap on the left leg, as i had to replace this as it was cracked.

The right leg has a black nut which is either a plastic cover or plastic coated, and is approx the size of a wheel stud on a car but shallower.

The sticker on the side says 009

Thats all it has on them apart from TORA on the right leg graphic.

Sounds like a 2006/2007 Tora 302 Uturn. I have one, and a 318. Both good forks, but the 318 does have the better damper.

If i can get the springs (emailed Fisher) then i will be happy to keep them, even though I was missold, ( i believe the seller was 100% trustworthy, and still do)

Thanks for all your help Supersonic, i appreciate it.

Sounds like a genuine mistake (I know who the seller is ;-)), he seems a good guy.

Yep i agree it was a genuine mistake, and all credit to the seller, he offered me a refund, but i want to keep them, and as a gesture of goodwill we are going halfers on the spring upgrades, more than fair id say.
