can a crossbar damage a joplin seatpost?

Now I've had not many problems transporting my full susses around on my saris bones bike carrier ever since I purchased a false crossbar but i'm wondering if a false crossbar could damange a variable height seatpost i recently fitted onto my ransom like the joplin . Given theres alot of play if that car goes over a speedbump and the amount of pressure the cross bar exerts holding over 33.0 lbs of bike , is this a risky idea and should i buy a whole new seatpost to use instead of the joplin to hand my biker under?

Can't imagine it would cause problems as long as you attach it to the lower, outer seatpost (the bit that doesn't go up and down). The seatpost will take much greater loading with you on it hitting something hard at speed.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

There seems to be a lot of reliability issues with this seat post.

My advice be to send it back and get it fixed.
