Planning to go up to Evans Cycles next week and get a core 20. My budget was £500 but I can just stretch to £599 (wont tell the wife). Any last minute suggestions of any other bikes to look at (cant be any more more expensive)?

Also is Evans the kind of place I should haggle for a discount/extras?

Thanks

    Never be afraid to haggle!

Even if you don't get a discount, you may get some nice extras thrown in for being cheeky

a chap on here managed to get a core 20 for £550 iirc. Price match from another shop. Not sure where.

Good choice of bike mate. You'll love it.

Got mine from Evans and they price match so got mine for £550. Take this link into Evans with you and ask them for the price match:

    http://www.squarewheels.biz/index.asp?pageid=101713

They may insist that it includes delivery but my sales assistant wasn't bothered, even so it will be £565. As it is already reduced, I'd be surprised if you'll get the price down any lower.

If you're getting anything else with it try and get an idea before you commit, then get them price matched as well. Got some Shimano SPD shoes knocked down to £45 for £60.

I'd say at £550, you'd struggle to get a better bike but the Boardman sport from Halfords and the Rockrider 8.1 at Decathlon aren't bad bikes and they are £550 and £500 respectively.

Also, best ringing before you go to make sure they have one in stock in the right size.

Let us know what you get away with, as Si says when buying things like this, you should never except the price they are advertising.

Cheers guys, will update next week. Hope they've got some in stock, off to the lakes a week on Fri for a few sporty days. Would be a good chance to break it in.

Ordered my Genesis Core 20 today for £522.50.
My Local Evans Gateshead store had none instock so I would check before you go to avoid disappointment.
Thanks to Keirtristan I pricematched it to Squarewheelz for £550. I asked the guy instore @ Evans if he could work on the price & he told me no, I told him if I ordered it online thru Evans I would get a 5% discount through my work, he said he couldnt even match that & advised me to buy online, which I have.
Hopefully pick it up next Saturday, but will test before it leaves for its new home, just incase

    Wow £522.50, that's a bargain.

If you can get it that low, it's got to be about the best bike you can buy for that money.

Going OK but really not getting much chance to get out on it and have only gone locally on canal paths/bridal paths. Hopefully get up to Sherwood pines in a couple of weekends.

Didn't get the white mud guard, did you? I did ask in store if it came with them as I thought it did and they said it didn't.

The Genesis Website says they come with a cycragaurd as standard, plus every picture Ive seen of the core has one on

Just got my Genesis Core 20, it is very very green!

Evans price matched (£550 at square wheels) for me. Haven't had a chance to properly test yet but will give it a blast around Grizedale next weekend.

Didn't get a mudguard, asked the staff and they said that the only core that comes with a guard is the 10, all the rest don't (despite the pics to the contrary).

Deffler, I sent a contact message to Genesis from the website re the Cycra Guard. They emailed me back today and advised that it should have come with a Cycra Guard and that they send them all out with them.

They asked for my address and they're going to send one to me directly.

I was going to email them to ask them the same question, so I defo will now. Im also going to email Evans and tell them Genesis said they should have given me one so Im might get 2. lol. I did ask the guy when I picked up my bike why I didnt get one and he said he new nothing about them.
I was going to ask you about your cables runnin under the frame. Are yours 100% covered with outers? Or is the cable bare?

Just had a look. If you're talking about where they run under the bottom bracket then they are pretty much exposed through the runners.

cycled to and from work today. 18 mile in total, going there, the bike took some getting used to, took a while to get used to the lightness of the frame compared to what im used to and the gear shifters were weird. Return commute was much better. Front sus feels a bit spongy but will have a bit tinker

Excellent. Think I'm heading up the pines this Sunday for a couple of hours.
