Can anyone recommend a reliable place to purchase a replacement inner campy veloce 34T chainring? - ideally in a hurry (Highclere a week on Sunday and have somehow conspired to chip my inner chainring)...

Replacement campy chainrings don't seem to be as abundant on the web as I'd hoped...

I couldn't find one last autumn when I was in the same boat. The LBS was after £60+ for a campag one too, so I bought a stronglight for about 25 notes. Works fine, no noticeable difference in shifting from the campag one.

I'd recommend stronglight. Their chainrings are quite decent, specially for the price too.

Is it a Ultra Torque chainset with the offset hidden chain bolt?

If so you need one like this:

(I've no idea why it's called a middle ring - it's definitely an inner ring)

Thanks for all the replies - after a bit more digging, I managed to get the genuine replacement article (in silver, not my original infinite black) - arrived this morning (less than 36 hours after ordering) from ProBikeKit.com - very impressive service. All for £35, so not too bad... but I'd have preferred an online campy shop (gap in the market?)...

    Epilogue:

    Slight to major annoyance.

The (official Campag Veloce 34T) chainring supplied by PBK is ALMOST identical to the one I had in my 2007 Veloce compact - BUT the 5th bolt (the one that fixes to the crank arm) is just offset from the others a tiny bit - the position of the hole is a few mm further up and the metal lip protrudes down a bit further than mine, making it impossible to install. Is this what reddragon meant by the offset hidden bolt? My original doesn't look like the one in the piccie and the veloce's aren't carbon though, am I just suffering from spec change on veloce from one year to another?

So - almost back to the drawing board. I could mess about with the supplied chainring to trip off the lip and widen the hole, but that would seem like a complete bodge.

Or I could try and find another compatible campy inner ring for 2007 veloce compact for £35 and hope that it fits - but seems ridiculous when I could buy a whole replacement chainset for £69.99 from Geofrrey Butler --> http://www.gbcycles.co.uk/eshop.asp?wci ... E+CHAINSET

Two questions which I'd appreciate some opinions on:

    1. can anyone confirm if there have been year to year variations in campy chainrings since the move was made to ultratorque technology?
    2. my BB cups are fine - I presume they are the same since the inception of ultratorque chainsets?

Looks like Highclere is fast disappearing into the sunset... <sigh...>

Campag Ultra Torque cainrings have the offset bolt, you obviously have a square taper chainset?

If that is so PM me your details and I will send you a slightly used 34t Centaur chainring. I swapped to a 36 a couple of years ago and the old one is just gathering dust in my spares box.

Thanks for the very generous offer smokin', it's just prompted me to have another good look at the old and new chainrings. My chainset is definitely the Veloce Ultratorque 07 vintage (so I don't think your old Centaur will do the trick) - but upon checking, the chainring I've been given from PBK would probably suit a square taper chainset (i.e. it's not offset at all - my original is the one that seems to be, by just a few mm).

So, I think the TA link provided by reddragon is probably the chainring I need:

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/TA_11 ... 360025568/

I was just put off by the 'fits all campagnolo CT carbon chainsets' description as the veloce is obviously alloy...

Fuelled by my own ignorance, this has proven really irritating - definitely not as straightforward getting replacement campag parts as I'd like - thank heavens for these forums!

Yep, the Nerius is definately the correct one for Ultra Torque. That was what my LBS supplied me with and I couldn't understand why the bolt holes wouldn't line up on my square taper till someone here pointed out the slight offset on UT and I had it changed for a TA Zephyr.

Why the hell Campag see fit to do this I can't imagine, I can't see any technical reason for it.

It's because of the low Q factor. Personally I don't need such a low Q factor, so it just seems stupid to me.

I'm never going to buy a Campag Compact again if they play these tricks again. I'd rather get a chainset with proper 110mm chainrings......

According to Chickens the Campag importers there are 2 different rings for Campag compacts.
Record,Chorus and Centaur aluminium are one design and Centaur carbon, Veloce etc are another.
Its a very odd thing to do and if it were me buying a ring I'd just file out the offset, its only a couple of millimetres.
