Cube attempt

Hello, new here.

Firstly, I have already made use of the search facillity and have gleaned some useful info but would like more if poss.

Been mtbing for a long time and would like to get involved in road cycling.

I'm potentially about to pull the trigger on a cube attempt. Seems to have a solid groupset (if mixed) for the cash and is available at my lbs which I always use.

Just wouldn't mind a bit of a heads up from anyone who knows the company or has the bike.

Frame seems sound enough and it's quite pretty. Feels nice enough to ride. Where's the catch?

Basically does it stack up against a spesh allez elite? My mtb's a spesh stumpy and would consider sticking with the company even if it means going further afield than lbs.

Any thoughts?

i'm going to assume it's a decent machine and take the plunge.

even if it's not at least i can console myself with the fact that utd lost.

bike does have red bits on though, shame.

I have a Cube Aerial which, I believe, has the same frame as the attempt but a (mainly) Tiagra groupset. I have been fairly happy with the bike - no problems in 3 months of ownership.

It's my first road bike therefore I have nothing to compare it with. I don't find it particularly light, however the Attempt has a better groupset and may go some way to addressing this.

I have found, however, that the Ritchey stem was not up to much and kept allowing the headset to come loose. This was partly to do with the "plug" in the steerer. Now much better following replacement with a star nut and another stem.

However, quality wise the frame is fine I'd say and certainly holds my ~90kg. One thing I will mention is the quality of aluminium. I don't know much about this but I was told that thereis a difference in the Cube and some of the newer frames out, but I wouldn't let this hold you back.

My other option was a Giant Defy and the main difference I found was that the Defy had a slightly more upright geometry, whereas the cube is more stretched out. Make sure this is what you want - I have changed the length of the stem on the Cube, but am now happy with the position.

I think the paintwork looks great on the Cube bikes and makes it stand out from the crowd - I certainly haven't seen any other Cubes around where I ride, but my LBS tells me that they are selling more and more.

They are decent bikes, German manufacturer, pretty good feedback from those who have them.

I had a couple on my (not very) short list, but then went mad and blew the budget on something else

I'll give it a go then. I don't think there's much to choose between any of the bikes i've been looking at, a few grams here and there no doubt but it'll be easier to lose the weight off myself than the frame. I'm sure the guy in the lbs will be pleased.

You're right - I found many of the bikes I was considering much of a muchness! Pick one you like the look of and as long as it fits, you'll enjoy. Good luck.
