As the title says I am after a bike store where I can speak to guys or girls who really know what they are talking about and can help me get a road bike that fits properly. Unfortunately I find that too many stores will get you on a bike that just fits ok and when you are a novice you dont know the difference.

This will be my first road bike (I am mountain bike addict ) so if I am to give myself a fair chance of really enjoying it I want to get it right from the beginning.

I realise it is totally down to getting the right member of staff as Evans is a case in point where you can get fantastic service in one store and utterly dreadful advice in another.

Are there any bike stores that stand out in particular?

Advice is as always appreciated!

Condor on grays inn road are a perennial favorite of Londoners and to be fair they are very knowledgeable there.

However if you are based near clapham I recommend a visit to Luciano Cycles on Battersea rise. The have some lovely Italian road bling

    Brilliant.

Thank you for that, some Italian bling would be nice .....I couldnt justify it in the slightest though  (budget is max £1600)

Mind you if I do use it all the time and get into I could......not sure that argument will work on the better half....!

If you want a totally unique type of service then go to bespoke cycling in Hoxton Square. You can then get a proper bike fitting done and a custom built bike ordered tailored exactly to you and your requirements. It will cost but hey if I had the money its where I would definitely spend it. You will need to make an appointment, you can't just drop in. Probably not what you were thinking about when you asked the question but then again I don't know your budget so if you have the money I spend it there.

Don't bother with Evans imo. Condor Cycles are fine and they know what they're on about.

if it's a correct fitting then as usual I'll always recommend Cyclefit who will sell you some reassuringly expensive kit but whose first priority is always to ensure you are comfortable on the bike you purchase. Condor and Bespoke both have good reputations. C-fit use a video capture/fitting jig.
