recommend me a bike box (or bag)

Got a few euro trips coming up and I'm tempted with getting a hard case for the trip. Always used cardboard in the past which is obviously cheap and does the job.

Any ideas/experiences?

Could go soft case, but not sure on that...

    There are threads elsewhere on this topic. Best case is arguably the SciCon Aerotech or it's clone BikeBoxAlan, the latter being made in Britain and available for rent. The Tifosi or Planet X bike bags are good if you want a softer mode of transport. Both have (dis)advantages compared to the other

    cheers. I spotted the Alan ones. They look pretty solid. Just can't decide whether to fork out for one , that's all.

    I'd hire one initially or drive over and look at one. Don't forget that you also have to store the item and they do take up room (about the size of a bike box!). i'm lucky in that I can keep mine at work.

    I've a VK bike box, which is pretty crap really but does the job asked of it, and keep it under the bed when I'm not using it. It means I can store the odd frame in it too, away from the prying eyes of my gf, who won't look under there for fear of spiders. :wink:

    I was looking at buying a new bike box last year and the SciCon/Bike Box Alan one is very bulky and hard to handle in and around the airport. A compromise might be the Polaris soft shell bike pod, that looked like it would do the job but is less bulky.

    The Polaris is good in that it's slightly more rigid than the bag but then you might go all the way and get the hardcase.

    The trick with the hardcases is always use airport trolleys to move the case about. Majorca airport even has special trolleys. The S-Con and Alan both have wheels but if you use a trolley you can get your hand luggage or suitcase on as well. Sometimes you need to push the trolley sideways to make it more manoeuverable. Don't forget your £1 or 1 Euro for the trolley

    Borrowed a friends DHB hard case earlier this year and it did the job, it is heavier than most though (although wasn't a problem flying on EasyJet with it and about 22lb worth of bike and tools in it)

    use a b&w bike box - heavier but cheaper than bbalan - got from wiggle or CRC .. a dream ...but not light
