I'm new to this forum so please bear with me if I sound like a prat.
I am getting all the bits together to build my first fixed at the ripe old age of 52 after years of TT's, MTB, CX and commuting.
Theres nothing on the Saga or Help The Aged websites about fixies so am I the only old git that wants to move out of the comfort zone and get his legs ripped off?
My questions are.
What levers fitted to road bars will work well with Avid Shorty 6 cantis? I have been looking at the Tektro RL520 levers which apparently pull quite a lot of cable.
The forks that I have are suitable for cantis or disc (CX forks) so would these levers be suitable for use with a cable disc? Having said that is a disc a good idea on the front of a fixed? I'm getting to old for face-plants! :(
That's it for now but I'll be back.

Normal road levers like Shimano 400 or 600 will pull enough cable for cantis or a cable disc, if you want to fit Vs you will need Dia Compe V brake levers as they pull more cable which V brakes need.

Dont let your age put you off. Dave aka Meagain is a pensioner (sorry Dave!) and he does just fine. I think he runs around 60", I run 68". Medium ratio tt is limited to 72" and the classic winter gearing is around 63"-65". Gearing is a very personal thing though. Three things you need to remember with fixed.

nothing wrong with your age, look at malcolm elliot, 48 (?) and a pro rider, and that phone company boss in his 50s and riding like a pro.
