10 days ain't long enough for "Europe"! :)

Might be better to pick a country (or two if you're prepared to hop on a train) and go from there.

I scooted through Belgium and the Netherlands in 14 days, but it wasn't enough.
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."

I'm sure this isn't what you want, but if anyone is looking to go on a gentle cycling holiday with (non-cycling) wife and kids, these look decent:

A lot of good advice is available at ctc.org.uk.

Do not underestimate the effect of mountains day after day.
Plan your routes well, also carry good maps.
    Use bum cream.
Carry good tools (make sure you know how to use them).
Carry basic spares (tubes, cables, a selection of useful bolts and nuts).
Make sure the bike is 100% before going - particularly tyres, brakes and chain.
Eat well - don't eat junk.

Most important tho' - don't over plan, and put off going until you have everything 100% - just do it.

I went from Basel to Lugano (North - South through Switzerland ) in a week, so you should be able to extend that to include more of Italy, or do parts of Southern Germany?
