I am on the look out for a new bike and wondered if anyone has bought/got one of the bikes from the range put out by Chris Boardman. Puts me off a bit they are sold through Halfords to be honest but I have read couple of good reviews. Thanks!

I've got a Boardman Road comp from last year, it's my first road bike but so far so good. I haven't got anything to compare it to but it feels quick handles well it's light and people who know what they are talking about say it's good so it'll do for meSaracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame
Voodoo Bizango - 2014 - Dead - Hit by a car

I have a Boardman Comp MTB (2008) and it is excellent. If the road/hybrid bikes are anywhere near as good you won't be disappointed.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)
Current Weight:119 kilos (18.7 st) (June 18th 2009)
Target Weight: 92 kilos (14.5 st) (sometime mid-2010, hopefully sooner)0 -
I have the Boardman Team Carbon. It is stiff and very light, sub 8kg bike for under £1000. There was a how heavy is your bike thread on here not long ago and I wasnt surprised to see it was a lot lighter that many of the more expensive machines. The bike radar review of it tells you all you need to know. Great group set, decent finishing kit and the frame is superb.
Excellent bike and I would happily recommend it, and get this, Halfords at Seafield in Edinburgh set it up perfectly!!Cannondale F500

I've got a Boardman Hybrid Pro and I think it is cracking, but I hadn't been on a bike for 10 years so I don't have anything else to compare it to.
Only issue I have is with the rear disc making the back end vibrate under breaking.Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around you could miss it.0 -
They seem to be really good bikes. Played with one in the BikeHut store and the Team Carbon roadie seemed a lush bit of kit - the model below that too.
But - and it's a big but - the stock situation was bloody farcical. The man who helped me in the shop was excellent, but had no idea when he could get a bike for me to test ride (only had bloody tiny one in store).
Was told on the Saturday it'd be made up and ready to test ride on Monday. That slipped to Tues, but then got a call to say it wasn't in stock after all.
It finally turned up 11 days later, but with no indication until the day when I got a call. By then I'd picked up a sale bike in Evans. The annoying thing was that I'd have been tempted to wait for the Boardie, but what're you supposed to do - you'd never buy anything at all!
So probably a cracking bike, but good luck actually getting one.
(Got a Pinnacle Aeos 1 carbon instead: sub £1000 and sub 8kg too)FCN 5ish. Unless hungover.0 -
Id say unless you know what you doing with bikes dont bother with boardman. What you gain in bike for your money you lose in service / setup. The best parts in the world are crap if not set up right. Also, I have a boardman team fs which now has a snapped frame after 4 months of non abusive riding. Great stuff!0

To be honest, I would not let Halfords near a bike - as for Boardmans range - they score very highly in most magazine tests and in 2 years my Boardman Team (alloy) that I got on C2W as a hack, but it has never let me down in all weather/conditions, I have even raced it and use it for weekend mileage (the Bike Averages 200 miles a week and gets allot of abuse/lack of cleaning - although I am careful with setup and maintenance every couple of months).
It does not matter what bike you have - if it is set up wrong, or you are a fettling muppet, then you are gonna suffer. As for value, I don't think you will find a better specced bike for the money or a better made frame....Put my old Ambrosio to shame with the quality of welding!
From my £3000 Cervelo - I probably paid £1000 for the Cervelo name and the rest went on frame and parts.....
Look beyond the Halfords front end and you will get a very good bike.0 -
