The Tour of Britain organisers are holding a sportive on 6th September. The route will be Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain, which is a 145km loop starting and finishing in Stoke-on-Trent.

I've signed up for this, which will be my first sportive. I've fancied the Etape Caledonia for a while now, but the extra expense of getting up to and staying in that part of the world. Obviously this won't have quite the same scenery.

Was kind of surprised that it wasn't already being discussed here, so is anyone else going to give it a go.

edit: I originally claimed this was a closed road event after reading this article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/mattslater/2 ... mpy_r.html

As pointed out by others the official site doesn't mention anything about closed roads, so now I'm not sure whether they'll be closed or not.

    Hmm....

I read this blog on the BBC:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/mattslater/2 ... mpy_r.html

    which includes this quote:
But why then are the Etape Caledonia and the Tour Ride the only closed-road cycling events in the country?

Then I went and signed up. As you say, doesn't seem to mention closed roads on the site at all. Misleading quote? If it really was closed road then I can't imagine they'd be keep quiet about it on the official site.

Perhaps they haven't told the locals and Peter Hounam has a branch of his chocolate shop in Stoke? :D

well, that blog certainly seems to say it's a road closed event.
