Hello,

Took the jump and now leave my car at home :D feels amazing and only been a week!

I ended up buying a Carrera Subway Zero (SS i have never really liked gears) i know its halfords and they arent amazing but got it on the B2W scheme and its ideal to improve the 'engine' for a year or so then prehaps upgrade to a 'real' bike!

Any who I need a computer to monitor my progress! I want a neat wireless system that will work! Max of around £30 and must have Speed, Average Speed, Odometer and time. Anything else is a bonus! Can you forum guru's give me some options?

The Cateye Strada is good, a little more than that though - about £40. I've got the Strada Double wireless which does cadence, but it's double the budget !

Welcome to the forum and congrats on ditching the car! :D

This one works a treat for me:

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Catey ... 360017918/

Doesn't have cadence, but I don't think I need it - I just go by "feel".
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."

Well done Colin and welcome to the 'club'.

Re. your bike - "It ain't wot yer get it's wot ya do wivvit" (or something like that). Enjoy your ride and perhaps you can justify something snazzier in due course.

I am in two minds about recommending the VDO C1DS. It worked perfectly for a few months but I had issued with it not picking up the signal so after getting a replacement I eventually took it back for a refund. A friend has one and it's hassle-free. I like the intuitive settings etc and the shape of it though so perhaps I was just unlucky - I've not known anyone else complain of the same problem. VDO have since renamed the range.
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.

I don't think VDO have renamed the range, they have just introduced a cheaper A series (analogue) to complement the C series, though the A series seems to be more available.

I am a VDO fan, after the factory in Germany sent me a completely new and upgraded digital replacement for my old analogue computer that packed up - after 8 years!!! I didn't expect that at all, just sent the computer back to ask if a repair was possible, got the new one by return of post with an apology saying my old computer was obsolete! Beat that for service!!! (They have a standard 5 year warranty as well). So I would never have any qualms about buying VDO.

(Compared to Cateye, my warranty claim was completely ignored by the UK importer, Zyro).
  • Thanks guys, i have been surfing this site and seems i have stumbled accross a gem of the internet!

cjcp thanks for the reccomendation seems to be everything I need and imagine is worth the extra £5 over my budget! I also assume wiggle is a good site as it is mentioned countless times on this forum!

My best commute so far was 26mins 6.2miles various up and down hills I was fairly pleased would like to get it down to sub 23 asap and when i have up the gearing on SS!!! love it!

    Thanks for all you advice!

Of the Cateye ones I think the Strada is better, but it is a few quid more again (shop around). It is small, but has a better screen than the micro, on which i found the poor contrast to make it hard to read (esp with polarised lenses).

Any I need a computer to monitor my progress!
We've got one. You want to monitor your progress? Add your fizzog to the SC Stats Engine, and work your way up.

Topeak Comp 140 is good. No wireless, but cadence incl max & avg for post-ride review are all available. About 30 notes, Halfords sell them these days.
