Not literally but this choosing a bike is so hard, been looking properly now for about 6 weeks and i probably decide on a different bike every day, when i thnk i have finally narrowed it down to a couple to go and test i find somthing i don't like about it either on here or somewhere else on the net, mainly something about the component details,

I know its asking alot but can someone tell me which is the perfect bike,

here are a couple of examples of my recent choices,

Marin Palisades Trail (nice fox fork but doesn't have lockout)
Marin Nail Trail (not sure about the Marzocchi fork)
Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo (dont like the handle bars seem to straight)
Specialized Rochopper Expert (fork doesn't have lockout)
Boardman Pro (top spec but now think i am a bit of a brand snob)
Scott Scale 50 (expensive and rubbish tora fork)
Genesis Core 30/40 (good spec but brand snob again)
Trek 6series (dont like the cables running on the top tube)

and the list goes on, does any one have the same problem as me? can anyone tell me the easiest way to come to a decision, Cheers, Lee

Have you tried them out? Perfect to you, and perfect to me will most likely be completetly different! Shortlist 3 you like the look of and try them out. Value wise the Genesis and Boardman would top my list.

The Palisades has a cheap Zochhi fork.

Perhaps realise that at some point, if you don't make a decision, none of the bikes will be available in their current iteration, in your size, and then you will have to go through it all again for the 2010 bikes (due out fairly soon)?

I'm not being unfair, just telling you how I see it, from my experience. I'm trying out bikes tomorrow and will hopefully find my intended... :D

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure....

    Very best of luck!

Yep, try them out, as many as you can keeping in mind the riding you will be doing, it's the only way with a list, some bikes you'll like some the geometry you'll hate. And you won't be doing it overnight either.

Can't rule out the Core due to being a brand snob. Genesis in that form are just new to the game but bear in mind thay have Ridgeback heritage which goes back many years.

They are also designed in the UK for the UK market.

Just think when you go down thw trail centre do you want to be one of the many riding Specs, Marins, etc? Or do you want something a little different?

    Ford Focus or Lotus Elise?

Of all the brands you've listed there Genesis are probably the brand with the least mainstream, least common and most well thought out range of HTs for use in the UK. Most of their bikes are really nice and I don't think I've ever actually seen one on the trails...

(I've certainly never seen any of their io singlespeed things so I'm hoping they'll be going cheap at the end of the season  )

    From the Genesis website:

"The Core. A verified trail classic, try it out, test it, push it. No flinching from this one, no second-thought stalling at the edge. Totally adaptable and capable anywhere, it's one bike that rocks every trail. "

malt4 with a reba :) but it does have those pesky cables on the top tube which make it less fuss when shouldering the bike :P

Sorry I was being facetious, I should have added a smiley or something. You were asking what was the "perfect" bike for you but no one can tell you this. You have to decide for yourself. What I've learned from reading these forums is that choosing a bike is a lot like choosing a wife - We all have different criteria (and budgets).
