Best bike around £600

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a bike.
I would like to spend around the £600 marks.

What sort of stuff would you be riding? For that money I'd probably recommend a hardtail - you could get a reasonably light one with decent components for that amount of money. Or you could get an entry level full-suspension for a little more comfort over the rough stuff, but you'd take a hit on the weight front - if you're willing to hunt around for last year's models, you can pick up a bargain (I think there are some places doing the Specialized Myka FSR comp for around the £600 mark, it was originally £900).

Its a bike through the cycle2work scheme.
But will be using it at weekends.
It's a hardtail I'm looking for.

Last bike I had was a sunn. Quite liked it.
Really looking for the best value for money, with good components.
