Argon 18 Gallium & Gallium Pro - thoughts?

So another day, another frame choice comes to the fore...!

The Argon 18 Gallium & Gallium Pro both look like good frames, and at £1200 & £1500 respectively (1100g & 950g too) neither of them looks like a bad buy.

The 3D headtube spacer thing looks awful, and despite what it's claimed to be there to do (i.e. reduced flex between stem & headset... really?!) I think I'd run it without that and just use normal spacers. But that aside I can't seem to fault them - both look great, good weights, reportedly good stiffness (possibly some top tube flex in the Pro, but I'm not sure I'm enough of a rider to notice), geometry that suits and a great price too.

I've done some searching and found a couple of threads, but nothing saying anything much about the ride experience so just wanted to canvas opinion. Also wanted to know if the Pro is worth the extra £300, other than the 150g or so weight saving (the only other difference I can see is in the fork - Ga 31 Vs Ga 31 Pro...)?

Anyone got anything to say? :D

(oh, and I have a list of alternatives as long as my arm so no need to offer other suggestions, thanks!)

Rich, how many new bikes/frames have you had in the past 18 months?

You're like how my wife is with shoes (couldn't possibly wear them, I've worn them at least twice).

    :wink::D

This will be No.4

Should have learnt my lesson and got measured properly after the first one!

    1st was too small
2nd fitted well but then I got ideas about carbon
3rd appeared on the classifieds and I snapped it up - now it's giving me back & neck pain as it's essentially to small!

Ah well - it's been fun!

Isn't that normal? I've always been a firm believer in "if you're comfortable, you're doing something wrong".

You might wanna address that buddy - uncomfortable is no way to be on a bike!

I almost bought a Galium before but opted for a Storck Scenario. I saw one in the flesh last year at a sportive and they look good and stand out from the usual amounts of treks, etc. Also got a decent write up in pro-cycling lately.

Marcel Wust reviewed the Gallium Pro recently in Procycling.

PM me your address and I'll stick it in the post if you like.

Didn't you have a Soloist Team? - how was it? I keep finding myself drawn to one (if I can get an anodised one) I'll shall be using it for sportives - though I ride them as fast as I can (who says its not a race!) and long rides with the odd club crit.

    Cheers

I certainly did, and a cracking bike it was too - I might try and pick one up again later this year for winter use actually. I loved it, and they're surprisingly comfy for an alu frame. Highly recommend them to anyone :D
