AM/FR Bike

Hi guys
I've been saving up for a while now, and I think it's now time for me to move on
to a better bike than my old £150 claudbutler
For what it was, it was a great bike, and I managed to do all sorts of trails with it.
Anyway, I'm wanting a fairly burly AM/FR bike around the £1000 that will be able to survive the downhill tracks of south wales, and is able to take a decent size drop. Now, I understand that the "fun factor" would sacrifice weight, but to be honest, I think I would survive ^_^ Is this a decent criteria, or am I just being stupid? :?:
I'm not quite sure what I should be looking for really, but I've noticed that the spesh pitch pro (at my absolute max budget) has been getting very good views at the moment.
Is this a good bike and able to fit into my ideal criteria?
Cheers guys, very much appreciated

Pitch Pro is great. Its over £1000 though and you are more likely to get a shag from Elisah Cuthbert than actually being able to find one in stock.
The Pitch Comp is just in your budget and is the same setup/frame as the Pro but with lower spec.
At £1,000 for FR and burley, you want to look at the Stinky. It goes down well, but forget about AM use, it's a beast to get back up hills.
The Pitch is great for AM, but lacks the travel/spec to be a serious option for DH.
Then again, a Pitch custom build which is very freeride orientated is possible for not much more than the Pitch pro (i'm almost complete on my build), coming in at £1,500.
It's light enough for AM duties but can handle most freeride and light DH use.0 -
Unless you go second hand you probably won't be able to get something that fills both criteria.
Although that does depend on what you mean by AM and FR
Unless you're really ragging it a Pitch Comp should be OK on the downhills, if you're not bothered about pedalling I agree with yoohoo - look at a Kona Stinky.0 -
How about the Mongoose Khyber Elite 2008, under £1000 and in stock.
Or the Norco Fluid LT 3 2008, also under £1000 and in stock.0 -
Thanks guys, all are good reccomendations, and are going on my test list.
Any other options?0 -
Others:
Kona Stinky Six and Kona Coilair 2008, both probably lighter than just the Stinky with 66's up front.0
