Which Mount Do I Need? - Now With Pics of The Problem

HI, been trawling this forum for months looking for advice but now the time has come that i've actually registered as i really need advice from the lovely people on the site. I have made use of the search button but cant find any topic's.

My problem is i have Rockshox Pike's 05 and Hayes Stroker Trails with a 180mm disc. The mounts that came with the brakes just simply dont sit right when fitted to the Pikes, there a gap of around 1mm, this is because the Pikes have a certain moulding that the original Stroker's mounts doesnt sit in. The disc almost (and on occasions does) rub against the mount as it juts out a little to far.

So can anyone suggest the correct mounts please. It would be hugely appreciated.

the pike is a standard IS mount and the Hayes are standard Post mount.

so either the hub is old standard or set up wrong. or you just need to set the brake up correctly.

1mm clearance is not a problem.

Yeah i read that before posting. The brakes are set up correctly. The 1mm gap i speak of is in between the mount and the forks. Only about 50%of the mount is actually touching the forks the rest doesn't because the angle that the mounts sits at does not fit with the moulding on the forks if that makes any sense at all. i can take pics if that helps.

pics. as it is a standard fit. there is nothing odd about the pike.

    Here are the pics

On this pic you can see the definite vertical line on the forks that the mount goes diagonally over (just doesnt look right when it sits over the groove)

    like this

    or like this

it doesnt appear to site right at the bottom either

and the gap i mentioned, where the mount doesn't sit flush to the forks looks like this

Am i just being a bit to anal about this, its just it doesn't look like that on any of my other bikes, nor did it look like that when the brakes were fitted to another bike. It got to the point last week when i removed the maxle spacers and swapped them around to see if had put them on right, even though i checked the spacers to see which 1 said "disk side". Double checked but the disk still rubs along the mount because the mount does not sit flush enough to give clearance. You can see in nearly all the pictures where the disk has been rubbing against the mount as its taken the black paint off, its towards the top of the mount.

Sorry if this is long winded, and sorry for all the pics.

could your lbs not face the disc tabs with the disc mount facing tool or could you not mark round the black mount then carefully file the tabs on the fork back to the thinnest part so they are flat, it looks like they havent been machined with the correct clearance.
    who cares?

it does look like someone has been playing with the fork as there is nothing wrong with the adaptor.
krav I guess these are not new forks? I would say that one of the earlier owners has done some modding to the fork.

If they are new then i would be tting the shop to fix it FOC.

No their not new, i bought them off a friend who'd had them since new. Thanks for all your help. i just wanted to make sure i wasn't going MAD because i knew that something wasn't right and i couldn't put my finger on it. I may try and file the mount slightly to accommodate the forks.

    dont bother.

find an LBS with a facing tool and get them to fix it once and for all times.

filing the mount may put the adaptor ot an angle and then you will have brake/rotor problems etc etc etc.....

Looks really like the original owner had filed/faced just enough material off for the beake mount they were using and you just happen to be using a slightly bulkier adaptor.

    File please!! :)
