Hi All from a total newbie,
I've pretty much decided that I'm going to take the plunge and buy a road bike to ease the load on my ageing runners knees.
I won't ask you all what bike to get to get but........what other kit is essential? Cost is a real issue so I don't want to get anything that isn't a must but will get the extras as and when I can afford it.
Here's my list, what would yours be.
Cheers.
Bike(!), helmet, pedals, shoes, spare tube, pump, lube, shorts/bib shorts.

Tyre levers, gloves (fingerless over summer, good for wiping snot away and also in case you come off.)0

chain tool... with luck it'll be a long time till you ever use it, but I reckon having one is an insurance policy. Chain Lub to keep it alive longer and reduce the need for the chain tool... anything with the word chain in..."The only absolute statement is that everything is relative" - anon0

some basic tools maybe, allen keys, chain tool, etc. Oh and sand paper to smooth your brake pads once a week.0

Every time I think of a piece of essential kit the words 'track pump' jump up and push to the front of the line. So, track pump for me...0
