If you had a choice of these two, which one would you buy?
I've got to build a bike for a mate at work and he's set on one of these two, I think the 853 because it won't be as harsh as the SL but like the black powdercoat, but he's thinking more on the weight side as the frames only about 3 lbs, but likes the red.

Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

Just took delivery (1/2 hour ago) of the 853 for my g/f, the red paint is gorgeous, deep metallic red. I would choose the 853 too, should ride better, lovely retro thin tubs, its something a bit more special than the alu one.
By the way, Merlin quoted up to 10 days build time, but I ordered Monday and it was delivered today (Friday) so pretty quick service!0 -
The alu frame might be comfy! Only one way to find out ;-)0

Oh! Well in that case, my apologies
Anyone want to buy an alu Lobster frame...0 -
In terms of classifying the bikes is the RL Tig Team a race sc bike or more hardcore hardtail, am presuming it's a very strong frame, it comes with mavix crossride wheels are these pretty strong wheels?0

Just XC bikes with XC parts.0

Is it a reltively strong set up though small drop offs and stuff no problem for it?0

Mine is different to the Merlin spec as i built it up myself (it's in my sig). It has XT factory wheels which are only 24 spoke, but i've landed plenty of small drops (1 foot ish), with no problems.0
