Hi
I have had one for 3 months, a AMS 125 K18, done about 200km in the last few weeks so really getting used to it now. I don't have a lot of experience with many different types of bike as I tend to keep my bikes for quite long so its not easy to compare.
What specifically would you like to know about the bike. I use mine for XC runs about 10km to 70km perhaps. Some short climbs in the evening to long 4 hr XC runs at weekends, fast descents and a lot of fast flats. Mostly dry forest tracks with some muddy single trails but with the weather here (28 deg today) its usually warm and dry and the nobby nic tyres do a very good job.
I tried a Univega, Trek Fuel EX8, GT Force 3 and a few others and I really didn't feel part of the bike. I was on the Cube for 5 secs and knew it was for me. THe low risers are so comfortable, the riding position etc all feel so connected. The bike looks great (I have the mat black) and its a bit exclusive too so its nice not to see another on the trails that often. FOr the money, you struggle to find something spec'd better.
I can send you some pics if you want, send me a PM with email is best.
Cheers

I've had the AMS 125 R1 since December, having previously been riding a Kona The King. The Cube is a couple of pounds heavier than the Kona even with all the fancy kit on it (an inch and a bit of extra travel costs a few lb's!) ... and you do feel the extra weight.
I test rode a AMS Pro (the 4" equivalent) which would be a better XC race bike. the 125 gives you a bit more confidence on the rough stuff, but you really need to get the suspension tuning right to avoid too much wallow when you're out the saddle.
the frame is pretty tough but not the lightest - compare frame weight to scandium / carbon alternatives, but the kit fitted to it is top-notch - the wheels and brakes together are pretty much £800, and the TALAS forks are around £600.
if I was buying again and wanting something more focussed on racing, I'd probably go for the 4" AMS Pro frame instead if I'm honest. if you're not into racing and you don't mind lugging a few extra pounds uphill as a trade-off against big smiles downhill, this is a great bike.0 -
Hi,I bought a cube ams 125 xt about 2 months ago! I live in lanzarote and got it shipped from the bicycledoctor before the prices rised! Saved a lot of money, also ordered a cube ams comp wls for my girlfriend. Both bikes are really well equipped for the price and the frames are lovely. Use my 125 xt at least one a week on 15 to 40 km rides so far. Loving the bike and am really impressed with it and it gets better the more confidence I gain riding it. Ride a 20" as I am quite tall and find it climbs hills really well.0

Let us know what you think of your cube 125. First propper modern full sus I've owned used to ride a trek y22 urt suspension with manitou sus back and front really enjoyed it but wanted something upto date!0

Nice Bike Chris. I think my K18 and your XT have different forks and wheels, thats all. What colour did you go for?- 2013 Cube LTD, SL 29, grey / black.0
-
Red & black, looks great! Liked the look of the two tone. Yes the forks are fox talas 100 to 140mm and the wheels are sunnringle, also the brakes are xt and not formula k18 like I think yours are. Both great set of breaks! I went for the xt because i fancied trying fox forks seen lots of good reports! [/b]0

Good choice. I went for matt black. K18 brakes are great too. My first disc brake, one finger is enough for a lot of stopping power, magic!- 2013 Cube LTD, SL 29, grey / black.0

Hi
i've had a AMS 125 k24 for 12 months now and have done over 3000 miles on it doing all sorts of stuff on it. from fitting road tyres and riding from cardiff to stonehenge to doing the 7 stanes in scotland as well as my usual rides in and around dartmoor.
it copes with my lack of skill on the downhills and gets me up most hills without any problems. the only time i feel the extra wieght is when i'm lifting it over gates and fences.
i've had a few minor problems with the sram shifters and rear wheel hub but my lbs (cogs in plymouth) just chaged them while they sent the old ones away and all was covered under warranty.
all in all i think it was the best £1600 i.ve spent for a long time.
hope you have as many grinning miles as i've had.0 -
I love my 125XT.
Tried a good few different bikes before parting with the hard earned cash and went with the idea that a little extra weight "on paper" was worth going with given that you get a lot of quality for your money; the frame seems very well made as well as all kit being well thought out. On the XT for instance they have put on SLX shifters which I think are actually better than the XT shifters.
The "on paper" extra weight is not noticeable in reality and the bike copes very well with some big "real mountain" stuff such as the descent from Helvellyn down Grizedale,
big mountain stuff in Scotland etc. Trail centres such as 7 stanes, Whinlatter etc are also a blast
Not sure why there aren't many reviews in magazines but get on one and ride it and I am sure it will speak for itself0 -
I have a CUBE 125 K24, an anodised brown one, looks quite discrete compared to the loud CUBE schemes of 2009. I bought it over a year ago (so its a 2007 model) and I'm pretty chuffed with it, it's really well made and the components that came on it were all well specced, including carbon fibre ORO brake levers.
As for the design, compared to the hydroformed bikes like Commencal and Lapierre it does look a bit outdated, I think the AMS design has been around a fair few years now? and the company, well CUBE themselves are big in mainland Europe, sort of like the German/Swiss/Austrian equivalent of Trek. So you will find lots of support and spares for them if you plan to travel out to the Alps.
I've ridden plenty of miles on it now and the only downsides I can see are that the bottom bracket sits maybe 1" too low, that's its defniatley not a bike for rough downhills that have big drop-offs but its light as anything and with a bit of fettling the suspension is more than adequate. Great if you prefer XC to manic downhills.
Only problem I've had so far is that the rear derailleur cable rubs against the back RH linkage, within 3 months of riding it had rubbed the cable down to the wire.
I'd buy another one without any thought, though I think over the past year CUBE have pushed up the UK prices, the K24 (now R1) has increased in price over £500 in 2 years. I think if I was looking now for a similar price a Lapierre 316 falls into the reckoning... I just wish someone could import GHOST bikes from Germany as well.0 -
The 09 cubes have hydroformed tubing and also come with cable protectors to stop the rubbing on the suspension linkage. Out here in lanzarote my lbs sell ghost bikes, very similar in style to the cubes with the shocks on the top tube, look nice but prefer the look of the cubes. Ghost are a big company and make a wide range of bikes! However prices here are high and i bought my cube in england and got it much cheaper than anything the same quality here. Saved about 600euros including shipping!0

Finaly got my bike last week. Really pleased with it.0

Nice one, which colour and model did you get.
Lovin mine more every ride!0 -
they are nice bikes, where i work we stock them. Cubes are very popular, and its easy to see why, they ride well, they are spec'd well and they look good.
i ride a giant trance x, because i like the maestro suspension design more than a 4-bar, but its still a really nice bike.0 -
I got the K18 model.
It only comes in black but it looks really good & goes even better!0 -
