Mountain Mayhem tyres

I did MM 2 years ago and bought a single Conti cross country 1.5 tyre just to allow me to get around in the gloop.
If its's wet I'll be buying another but I was just wondering if in the dry these thinner tyres would be quicker than the 2.1 width panaracer fire xc pro's I have on there or would handling be a bit tricky?

If it's dry you want a decent volume tyre, 2.1" min.
I use 2.1" Racing Ralphs or 2.25" Rocket Rons depending on conditions, although i'm gonna get some 2.25" ralphs soon too because the 2.1"s are nearly worn.Scott Scale Custom

Thanks for the reply, but playing devils advocate, why the need for volume? MM is not usually that technical/rocky so my thinking was along the lines of thinner tyres on a road bike are usually quicker
Woudln't the same apply?0 -
That's what I thought until I read this:
http://www.bernhansen.com/Tester/Dekktr ... hwalbe.pdf
Since then i've dropped my pressures from 35-40 to 30-35 and it makes a hell of a difference to offroad speed, also to arm/body fatigue.
I'm not saying this is right, but it makes sense.Scott Scale Custom

1.5" Schwalbe black shark muds are the best tyres if it gets sticky.
If it's dry then something like a Racing Ralph 2.1" would be good, and if its somwhere in between a Nobby Nic 2.1".0 -

Matt - Have you seen many of the Elite guy's running Rocket Rons yet? Any feedback? Just got some ready for Margam, but may get a Nic just incase too.Scott Scale Custom
