I had a pair of these and had many punctures. I have found the best of the cheaper tyres are Vittoria Rubino's. If you want to spend a little more the Rubino Pro's are (in my opinion/experience) very good.

I second the Vittoria Rubinos. They're hard to put on at first but that's a small price to pay for the longevity of the product.

    Rubino Pro's - good quality, mid-priced tyre.

the blizzards/ Lugano seem to be holding up here, mostly surrey lanes so fairly rough going.

I do not rate Ultrasport at all.If you look at the long term, buy a set of Michelin Krylion carbon you will get 5000Kms + out of one pair. Also they will be much less prone to punctures than Ultrasport. Your money will be better spent on better quality tyres IMHE.

+ 1 for Rubinos. I've had two pairs in the last four years and had one pun**ure in the whole time (when experimenting with advice on this forum about lowering tyre pressures! Back up to 110psi+ for me). They grip pretty well (although getting out of the saddle and giving it some oomph up hills in the wet can break the traction of the central strip) and roll fine in my experience. For under ten quid each if you find a good deal they are good value for money. More expensive tyres are nicer, sure, but I know that justifying the cost to other halves, bank managers and/or one's conscience when times are tight and there are other priorities can't always be done.

Another for the rubino pros, durable, reasonably priced, reasonably easy to fit but make sure you keep them at least 100psi otherwise your tubes will be as prone to pinch punctures as with any other tyre. I've gone through two pairs without a single puncture caused by anything penetrating the casing.

  • Continental gp4000s are doing the business for me. Just make sure you net the new compound.

+1 here - you can't go wrong with any Schwalbe tyres
