Can't find this mentioned anywhere else on the site so just a quick word for the guys and gals setting of from Portsmouth this weekend on the 09 Help for Heroes ride in support of injured servicemen and women from all our Armed Forces.

Check out the website at www.helpforheroes.org.uk for details of the charity and the trip and be humbled by the courage and stories of many of those taking part.

The ride itself starts Sunday and takes in some of the major WW2 battle sites before going on down to Paris and is about 360 miles.

One of my collegues set off this morning from Blackpool tower (Blackpool tower to Eiffel tower - get it!) on a solo trip down to Portsmouth to meet the main party on Saturday. He's doing this all on a singlespeed Langster and takes the distance up to 650 miles, so, if anyone spots him give him a toot and your money (or just buy him a beer)

Be inspired and hats off to them all!

Thanks for posting. Whether the cycling community you are reaching out to on this website agrees politically with the wars or not, the people prepared to die for their country deserve respect at the very least.

I don't think anyone would mind too much if you were to also post in Cake Stop where there might be more traffic, but I am always being proved wrong (mostly on these pages!).

Please pass on my best wishes and let them know that your post has caused at least one new person to donate.

Thanks for your note and support, it will be appreciated I guarantee

Interesting point you raise and I have to say to all this was not meant as a political post in support of war at all, rather quite simply to raise awareness of the actual ride, those learning to cope with disabilities and those helping them to adjust to life beyond their injuries through the excellent sport of cycling.

I posted in this section away from the brake blocks and ratios as I thought this might be the area where those may lurk who appreciate challenges of physical endurance and, boy, some of these guys will be enduring. Some will be riding minus limbs within months of losing them others will have significant impairments. Some will just be friends and family and perhaps not all who are even able bodied will be in the shape they might hope to be to cover the distance.

Take your point about reposting elsewhere but not entirely sure how to move this without creating duplication and on reflection perhaps the subject is too heavy for the community.
