Help with changing pedals

Hi, I'm changing pedals for the first time (exciting huh?!). Did one no problem, but the other is stuck like a bugger. Broke 2 admittedly cheap tools trying to loosen it. Need to now buy another spanner or wrench.

Can anyone tell me which way to loosen the left pedal? I don't want to be making it even tighter by trying to undo it in the wrong direction.

Right pedal, right hand thread - left pedal, left hand thread! turn left pedal tother way ;-)
