Am I fast enough to do a 10 mile time trail?

Hi All,

I have been cycling now every week for the past year and really do have the cycling bug!!

I am currently commuting to work and back (on days when I dont need to be at the other side of the Country) which is a 22 mile round trip and on a Sunday morning I cycle between 25 and 50 miles.

I have now got my average MPH upto 17 over a distance of 25 miles on a course that has a few steep hills mixed in with some flat. However I pushed myself to that max the other day and over the last 10 miles of my sunday cycle (25 miles in total, again a mixture of hills and flat) and I hit an average of approx 22MPH.

I would consider this to be a fairly decent speed, however where abouts would it see me on a 10 mile time trial? would I be totally humilliated or is that a respectable race time?

Any advise would be greatly recieved as it is something I would like to get into. Any advice on where I can go do a time trial in the Yorkshire Area would be greatfully recieved.

Cheers,

Tino.

22mph average would be more than respectable for a first effort. But how could you be "humiliated" even if you only went 15mph? It's about racing against yourself primarily and trying to improve week-on-week.

Try to find a local club that organises evening 10's for your first outing - look on the club listing on the Cycling Time Trials website.

Once you've got the bug, you can then have a go at an "open event" - details of these are listed on the CTT website (they have to be entered in advance, so a bit more commitment is needed than for club events - you also need to be a member of a CTT affiliated club to enter)..

Tino, I did one two weeks ago, 8 weeks after breaking my leg in three places. You are able to do a '10'.

If you can ride 10 miles you can do a 10 mile tt...

Tino - where in Yorkshire are you based? It's a big county!

Depending where you are I can suggest a few club events ideal for beginners in the West Yorks/Tadcaster/Selby areas

I know Calder Clarion (who are based in Wakefield) run evening club time trials.

They are every Wednesday and start at 7:00pm from Heath Common
