edited June 2009 in Commuting chat
Well, it's that season, and I notice that several Commuting regulars have sponsorship links in their signatures. As do I! So I thought it was worth having one master thread where people could tell the forum about their fundraising efforts, and where posters who'd like to donate could see all the options and, hopefully, everyone could benefit more or less equally rather than some being more exposed than others.

I'm still working on my sponsorship page (the one in my sig is functional - and the guy I'm sharing it with, Russ, is also a bikeradar poster, though not usually over these parts) so someone else can take the top spot in the thread!

I go to sponsor you and discover I already did! Damn, I'm generous 8)

(I was a bit put out that Action Medical research, the charity I'm supporting, don't use Justgiving, but it's just as straightforward to donate via their own site so please don't be put off)

Do Action Research get to claim the tax back as Justgiving do?

    *touching moment*

Yes, they do, as I understand it! I'll go and sponsor Russ now and report back.

(edit: yes, they do get Gift Aid. Also, I appear to have sponsored myself rather than Russ  Ah well, it all goes to the same place.)

    (edit #2: thanks Liv :) )

The rest of you, probably at some point, OK! :) I'm seriously thinking of doing one of the London-Paris rides next year, so I might well be tapping you lot up at some point, best to get the karma points in !

I think it would be appropriate for you all to add the sig line...

"A lot of fab work for charity" Nice!

Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.

Not a bike ride per se but Naomi house is a children's hospice and looks after the terminally ill.

It is a 26 mile walk from Winchester to Salisbury. Hoping my fitness from teh cycling will get me through

Many thanks in advance for your generosity!

Am on the phone to them right now after an attempt to pay for lunch yesterday when I took my parents out also failed...

Hah - I have made too many online transactions recently and this brought up their fraud alarm bells! Perhaps they thought "Planet X" sounded dodgy... Actually they said Paypal transactions set off their warning system, which is interesting.

Anyway, it should be fine now.

Well what a good idea :)

I'm doing three events this year with the intention of raising money for RNIB.

My wife was diagnosed with particularly aggressive proliferative diabetic retinopathy four years ago and has been through the mill since then with tests, worrying about retinal bleeds and a vitrectomy op (removing the goop from inside your eyeball). Throughout this the local RNIB officers have been a constant rock of support and advice.

I'm entering the 30 mile Craigavon Cycle Trail on 9th May (done!), the 60 mile Bangor Coastal Challenge on 21st June and finally, the big one, the 90 mile Lap The Lough event on 30th August. I've never cycled that far before so they all will be tough challenges!

I've loads of updates on my blog at http://www.rainmiles.com/

If you're feeling generous and have any spare change left over after sponsoring the other good causes on this thread, I'd really appreciate it if you could throw me a few quid over at http://sponsorjohn.com/

    Thanks :)
Today is a good day to ride

Might as well chip in here.......

I'm doing the Capital to Coast again this year, well actually later this month :-)
60 miles cycling down from Esher to Hove and if it goes anything like last year then I'm in for a real treat :-)

It's all in aid of Norwood's which is a leading UK charity supporting children and adults, coping with learning disabilities and social disadvantage, to reach their full potential in life.

I'm also going to be taking a big dose of MTFU pills before I set off this year and hope to complete the route none-stop (except for red lights, junction of course!) as opposed to having a rest at the half way stop like last year!

Sponsorship link is in my sig and all donations are gratefully welcomed :-)

I will take part in the London to Paris bike ride in September 2009, in support of The PSP Association.

More information on my blog: http://psplondonparis.blogspot.com/

PSP, or Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, is the illness my wife's dad, Kishin Chand Jajani, died of, after many years of suffering.

By taking part in the London to Paris bike ride challenge this year, I hope to raise awareness of the illness, on top of raising funds for The PSP Association who has supported us through many years of suffering.
