Camping at the Tour

I have managed to convince the Mrs that incorparating the tour in to our summer holiday this year is a good idea. We will be camping and hoping to catch a few early stages including the prologue TT in Monaco.
The problem I have is I won't be arriving to the South of France until the day befor the TT and am concerned all the campsites will be full etc. Has anyone any experiance of staying either before a tour stage and getting a spot in a near by town etc (I would happily stay towards Nice) or camping i that region who could point me in the direction of any campsites I could pre book with. It is really tough finding campsites on line at the moment.
Also, any tips on a good place to watch the stage in Monaco would be good. (I'm thinking of walking out of town up the hill to hopefully get a quieter spot.)
Thanks in advance.
