How do you apply frame protectors - just stick them on? - any prep before hand?

Also, i can see how they work as of yet cause I got about 6 little circular stickers and a couple of feet of cable.

You fit them only where the cable would rub. The best bet is just to get the bike on a stand and wave the bars about and see what touches. Around the head tube mainly, and sometimes also around the seat tube.

How about on the underside of the top tube or underside of the downtube where wires run on my rockhopper?

It doesn't really look like they will rub anywhere TBH - but it must do

Most cable rub will happen up near the headtube... Try moving the bars side to side and watch where the cables rub on the frame- stick the protectors there- and else where as the case may be....

luckily, my bike is black so black electrical tape cut into squares has worked a treat as a budget option for me.

If you wait a few weeks you can just see where the paint has rubbed off...
