Yeah although the novelty soon wore off for me, I'm too lazy to use it properly so it's mostly just a glorified bike computer ;) If you're prepared to put the time in with routing, virtual partners and using the training centre then it should be a great training tool.

Yep, I've got one and love it. I use it primarily for the navigation capability which enables me to ride new routes every week. Route plotting is super-easy with sites like BikeRouteToaster although I don't go into the realms of virtual partners or pre-programmed workouts. For me its a computer, HRM and nav tool to keep me from getting lost or having to use 'the force' to find my way home!

Tremendous. I use it with the Ascent software on my Mac, which works a treat.

Not got one but riding partner has - I'm not impressed by it really. One time we got lost - it couldnt find the wy back - and it was an out and back route too - ok it was a tricky little estate to get through, but it let us down.

Last week he had downloaded the gps track of the route that i'd done a few weeks back.
his garmin kept telling us that we should have been over 'thataway'.

I've got a 605 and I love it. I can plot and ride routes on little country roads that I wouldn't try without it. The only problem I've found is that if you miss a turn then it will recalculate the route to your finishing point by the quickest route, and that may be down busy dual carriageways.

I assume you bought a good map to load onto it as the base maps are rubbish.
  • Yeah well I hope so ....purchased City Navigator NT

Love it to bits, though still need to get the cadence meter working

Easy to use as a beginner but you get the sense that it will grow with you also. Hadn't found the bike route toaster site before. I use Map My Ride and Garmin Connect - anyone got any other suggestions for sites / freeware? The training centre software is decent enough, but I understand there are some great open source apps around.

I am chuffed to bits with the maps I have downloaded (inc. cyclepaths too). A lot of people put a lot of effort into getting these maps as good as they are :)
    Sport Tracks is great too...
